The odor of moth balls about knocks you over when you enter the door. The property owner, Carl, is trying to cover up mold smell. Recliners are broken, window coverings that cannot be removed, dark & dingy. It’s 77 degrees in the house and was 82 in one of the back bedrooms. A recent review (which I question if any of the reviews that are positive are real…just sayin’) says it wasn’t bad at 77 degrees…listen…it’s HOT in this house! We waited 45 minutes seeing if it would cool down and it never did. I told my friend there was mold in the house, she started looking and it didn’t take long…found some in a closet — all on the back of the door molding. I have pictures but don’t see where to load them. I called Carl, told him we couldn’t stay in a house with mold. He came and looked, rubbed the mold with his fingers and said, “Yes, that’s mold.” He also asked us if we found it anywhere else, like what other spots did they miss…geez. Carl shook my hand, told me he understood that we couldn’t stay there and he would refund my $4,500 that we had paid VRBO for the week. We left. I have had 6-8 phone calls with VRBO, about 3 phone calls with Carl (who of course now tells VRBO there was no mold) and have not received my refund. Carl refused to give me his email. Yes, I should have gotten something in writing from Carl. We’re from Texas where your word and a handshake still mean something. Lesson learned, may get a lawyer. Just please trust me…DO NOT RENT THIS HOUSE!
