Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: House needs to be updated and painted. Kitchen had the oldest pans I have ever experienced.

Not What We Expected

Reviewer Comments: Pool area was extremely dirty and pool furniture was old and stained. Bottom level sink was backed up. House needs some major updates. Would not recommend to a friend. No plans to return to this house. Drawers had food in them upon arrival.

Generally clean. Negatives not enough silverware(only 9 forks) Water from outside shower gathers around back door entrance. Pool area nice and enjoyed by little ones outdoor furniture well used. Overall loved our big family vacation together might stay again due to location great indoor space and cleanliness.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We love this house. This is our 2nd year staying in this exact house, and our 3rd in this neighborhood. It is a very short walk out to the beach and there are a lot of good sized rooms, space, and things for the kids to do. The only negative this I would say about this property is the condition of the beds. The mattresses are very old and springy and definitely need to be replaced in most, if not all, of the bedrooms.

So disgusting! Not clean or maintained!

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our fifth time visiting OBX and this house was terrible. It was extremely dirty, no one had cleaned the toilets in a long time. It had broken door knobs and the kitchen faucet was also broken, Light bulbs had burnt out in the bathrooms, kitchen, game room and hallways. We had to unload the dishwasher when we got there. The dust on the fans over the beds were so thick and black. We ordered linens but the beds were not made and some beds were missing blankets. It took two days for the management company to bring blankets and the extra towels we had ordered. The lake was advertised as stocked with fish but neither us or any of the neighbors caught anything. Do yourself a favor and find a house with Carolina Designs Realty. We have always been happy with their houses. Don't have your vacation wrecked like ours was!

Plenty of space and lots of activities for the kids (air hockey, pool, foosball, swimming, hot tub, basketball, etc). Overall, the house was clean with a few minor things that didn't really bother us (stain on a rug and foosball table looked like someone had spilled something on it when we arrived). Overall, we were very happy and would stay here again in the future.

Perfect house for our girls’ trip

Reviewer Comments: We kicked off our summer by gathering all of the girls in our close-knit family (ages tween - 50s) and relaxing in this gorgeous, comfortable house. Easy walk to the beach. Tons of comfortable spaces indoors for lounging around. Sparkling pool. Well-appointed kitchen. Highly recommend!!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall, OK, HOWEVER... It would have been nice to know that there was a new house under construction directly behind this house. Framing (pounding of hammers, saws, yelling, etc.) started at 7AM and was solid until 5PM Every day! Being the off season, there were dozens of other homes that you could have recommended we switch to and avoid this. The beds were VERY uncomfortable and in need of new box springs and mattresses. Otherwise, the house is very nice, close to the beach and has lots of amenities.

Great Vacation Home! Perfect Location!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed our first time visiting the Outer Banks and our stay at the Mayflower. The house has everything you need and the location is perfect, about 4 minute walk to the beach. The house has a lot of amenities. Our kids really enjoyed the air hockey and pool table. My youngest son enjoyed shooting hoops on the basketball goal at the house. We took a few walks around the trail around the lake as well. It was nice to spend time outdoors and take a break from the "electronic" world we live in. The hot tub was great too! The pool was a sort of cool based on the time of the year we visited, but we did have a warm day near 85 degrees that the pool felt good after a long day at the beach. The community around Ocean Sands is very nice. We played tennis a few days and rented bikes and rode around. Corolla has a really nice greenway to walk and ride bikes. The area has some nice shops and restaurants. I recommend driving to Duck and eating outside at Sunset Grille (best at sunset). Only recommendations would be to upgrade/replace the BBQ grill. We grille3d and ate in most nights and the grill worked, but was older and had seen a lot of use. The last few days we were there, we were woken up about 6:30am each day with construction on a new house directly behind us. It was cooler and cloudy those days and we didn't stay around the house much as we went exploring lighthouses and made the best of it, but if you stayed at the house, it probably would not be very relaxing with the noise from the construction.Overall, great vacation! We all agreed that we like OBX better than the Florida gulf beaches where we usually go. Can't wait to plan our next trip.

Outside needs work, fresh paint, cleaning up around the pool area. Pool deck had some mysterious oozy hard puddle, most lights around the pool had popped off the fence and were on the ground broken with batteries rolling out. Wasn't even swept up in the pool area, needed cleaning. Back sunroom smelly and needs work. We couldn't get 3 TVs in the house to work. Kitchen has basics but not enough cutlery,mugs, bowls, nor plates for the capacity of the house. Kitchen stovetop iffy on how well it worked. Air hockey table partially functional. Microwave was partly broken but functional. Positives: nice size, great distance to beach, nice game room,clean pool, large kitchen eating area and living room to hang out, house clean, great A/C. Stores close enough by but not really walkable. Property managers helpful once you spoke to them, but very hard to get in touch with..mostly got busy signals when we called.

It is a very large home and it had all the amenities that you could want for the was a very short walk to the beach, I would say no more than 3 to 4 minutes. There were a few items broken when we arrived but nothing that would totally impact our stay, such as door locks and blinds. I would say that a few larger pans would probably be great for a house of this size, considering that you would likely be cooking for a pretty large amount of people. Customer service via text was great, they were very prompt at answering, however it was very difficult to get anyone on the phone during our stay, but email and texts Communications was good. The only complaint I had was that the cleaning service did not really clean very well there was trash when we arrived and you could tell that it was from the previous guest. we went ahead and just cleaned it up so it's not a huge deal but considering you pay for that service it should be cleaned up. The last thing I wasn't Thrilled about was that we arrived at about 2:30 and check in is at 4:00 p.m. I was told by customer service if the cleaning person had already completed the cleaning, they would open the door earlier than 4 so we could get in. However we could not tell if it had been cleaned or not when we pulled up at the place so I asked customer service and they said that they had not been advised of this yet, so we went to eat somewhere in the meantime. Come to find out when we 1st arrived and pulled up it was actually already been cleaned at 2:30 but they made us wait till exactly 4:00 p.m. on be able to enter the property. I understand they want you to pay extra to arrive early but considering that traffic was absolutely horrible and it took me about an hour and a 1/2 to actually get through Corolla , duck and etc.I was really looking forward to being able to get out of the car earlier than 4. They should really reconsider how this works.

Reviewer Comments: The beginning was a slow roll due to the house being cleaned well past 6pm, but the rest of the time was good. The house served the purpose to comfortably fit each individual and we felt safe and no complaints there. We would all agree the management company was nice and did send all communication to us prior to arrival. The only big issue is the cleaning. You could tell the cleaning was very minimal, there was food under the sheets in the bed, the bathroom floors not cleaned so we all pitched in and did it ourselves.

Not best visit to the Outerbanks

Reviewer Comments: Very few pots and pans - originally owners had provided more but all that was left were the lids. Also silverware had disappeared - not enough for 15 people. Tv kept going out on first floor, bathroom door didn’t close on first floor, broken things in queen bedroom on first floor. The steps to beach are really steep and a lot of them. No way for a handicap person to get to beach. No place to put clothes in bedrooms. Needed dressers or at least hangers in the closets. The house was clean.

Mayflower Stay June 20-27

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stayed at the Mayflower in Corolla for a week. The pool and hot tub were great. There were some minor inconveniences (propane tank empty when we got there, basketball net was broken on arrival, cable boxes didn't work, screen door was broken on arrival, the house could use a fresh coat of paint in some areas). However, the realty company did their best to fix these issues promptly. They brought a new propane tank immediately, put a new basketball net on and tried to fix the cable box- which didn't get fixed until the final day. We enjoyed: being so close to the beach, the pool table, the air conditioning was great, the kitchen was stocked with all necessary supplies and the house was generally clean.

Just a 5 minute walk to the beach, 2 minute to the community pool, and just walk to the backyard to get into the house pool and hot tub. I'm a runner and the beautiful running path was perfect and very safe.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We really enjoyed our week's stay at the Mayflower. It was clean and very relaxing. We would definitely stay there again. They could use some more kitchen supplies such as sharp knives and pots and pans. We ended up going and buying our own.

Loved the location, but not the house

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Location was great. Ocean Sands is a very nice community. House was a short walk to the beach. There were 16 of us so space was important and house had good flow and allowed for privacy. Overall, the house is average and we couldn’t take advantage of the amenities, which we specifically wanted. Pool table is in a bad location - too tight for sticks. Theater room is small and chairs too close to TV and air hockey table worked, but not great. Pool and hot tube were nice. House is dated. With a few updates this house would be great, but felt it did it align with the price.
