  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

The house was very clean when we arrived. Everything in order. Kitchen is great. Nice appliances, easy to cook in. Ice maker didn't seem to work but not a big deal. The host was very responsive and made sure we had what we needed. Check in and check out were very smooth. Bedrooms were clean and the beds were in good shape generally. The beds in the room with the four beds could be better. Bathrooms were very clean and worked out great. The furniture in the living room is clean and in good shape for the most part. The arm on the end of the one couch seems like it has lost its stuffing or something but again, not a big deal. Full basement is in good shape. Has a dart board and TV. There's a "bedroom" in the basement but it's more like a closet with a cot. I would not stay in that room. But there is a bath in the basement. Parking is a bit of a challenge if you have more than two cars. The rest have to park on the street and with parking on both sides of the street it can get a bit tight. Since it was cold outside we didn't use the deck or the yard so no comments on that.Overall it's a good place to stay. Very close to the big shopping and dining areas so that's very convenient. It's in a good, relatively quiet neighborhood. The place is showing some signs of wear but I would stay there again.

The host was welcoming and responsive to our inquiries/requests. Whoever is managing the property for him just needs to improve. Snow hadn’t been shoveled away from a big storm 2 weeks before. Thus we couldn’t park more than 2 cars in a 4 car driveway, had to wade through drifts getting out of car and into the house, and walk on icy paths. Bowls we wished to use were cracked, a dirty pan in the cupboard, and the sheets on the bed were all wrinkled and uninviting to sleep on. It’s an attractive property….it just needs a little love.

The home was as advertised and very comfortable. The only issues we had were difficulty navigating the street due to many cars narrowing the passage way and there was no spare toilet paper we could find in the house.

This house is perfect for large groups. We spent a wonderful weekend here during our annual girls’ trip. Since the home is an open concept, it’s easy to socialize with everyone no matter which room you’re in. We love staying here and would highly recommend it.

This home was perfect for what we needed while we were in the New Albany area. The bedrooms were comfortable and so were the beds. The house was clean and communication with the host was seamless. We would stay here again for sure!!!

Very spacious, good beds, plenty of towels.One problem, third full bathroom is downstairs with only a single cot for sleeping.Also lighting was terrible in bathroom--too dim for make-up and lighting limited in house.Could use comfortable seating in bedrooms.Loved the outside porch and access to wonderful walking trail at the park. The garbage cans on curb blocked parking and remained there for three days, couldn't fit them in garage which was filled.Kitchen area perfect! Thank you for our stay.

Although communication with Ahmed was great, the property was very disappointing. Everything was beat up and dangerously falling apart. The kitchen chair legs were coming apart and someone is likely to get hurt. Same with the patio furniture, which was filthy. The paint is all chipped, the walls are dented, the curtain rod in the dining room is hanging off the wall, there are multiple missing light bulbs, the refrigerator shelves are broken, the grill is dented, and the back of the house is covered with moss. I honestly felt like it was a college frat house. I would not recommend the place to anyone. It was expensive and I was embarrassed.

Our stay was good. The house was clean. Although people do need to know that the couches have the legs taken off and sit directly on the floor. The beds also sit so low to the ground. If you are elderly or bad knees this is tough. Overall the house was nice.

The good : Good communication and friendly, plenty of space, several updated and modern features especially in the kitchen, AC worked great. The bad: Pictures are very outdated for the outdoor area since it looks nothing like the pictures, outdoor maintenance is very poor with lots of weeds, mildew, and run down furniture, bedroom carpets and walls are marked and stained, kitchen looks nice but is poorly stocked for cooking and eating. Overall, was a fine stay but not as nice of an area and the outdoor needs a lot of attention.

Fell a bit short of Expectations

Upon arrival the front yard is nothing like the pictures, no flowers just weeds and the entrance is in desperate need of trimming, you have to walk around bushes to get to the front door. The property is very, very poorly maintained. The back porch was unusable as it was so dirty, leaves and dirt all over the porch, ants all over the table that had not been cleaned off from food and the grill was not even able to used as it was so disgusting. Power went out from a storm for several hours and the grill was not even an option. My grandson walked around in his barefeet and his feet were filthy from the floors. Clearly no one looks after the property and checks on the cleaning service. The kitchen chairs are very frail and coming apart, very poorly made. Be careful as the hot water is set very very hot and it actually steams when it comes out of the faucets. Particularly in the showers and kitchen sink - very, very dangerous. All of the beds are very low to the floor, it did not appear that there were box springs on any of the beds. There are no dressers in any of the bedrooms which made it a little challenging keeping things in suitcases. No TVs in any of the bedrooms either. No notebook indicating anything about the area - best pizza place, local restaurants, map of the area - no information at all. Overall for the high price point it was a very disappointing property. Also for a home to have 6 bedrooms the extra per person charges seemed very high.

Great launching pad

We were visiting Columbus for our nephew’s graduation. The location was perfect for attending graduation activities and convenient to restaurants and shops. Ahmed communicated well and was accommodating of our family as we came and went. Given past experiences in reviews, we found clearly communicating our intentions went all long way.
