  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Took off only 1 star because the place had a lot of redeeming aspects and a lot of the negatives were more related to the management company and not the place itself or the owner. Questions were answered very quickly but it wasn't always clear or the right information. One example with check in... Before I booked, I messaged about parking access since we travel heavy with young kids. If not listed in the description, since I made a point to ask, we could have been made aware that the parking garage pass probably has not worked for some time. The biggest annoyance was when I reached out asking about supplies provided, I was told extra blankets could be requested. I did that 6 days prior to our trip, was told to message a reminder at least 1 day prior, I sent one 2 days before and received confirmation. Zero extra blankets provided upon arrival; we went out and purchased our own, it seemed easier than reaching out to an absentee management company given the time we arrived. Despite these things, the place was very clean, SMELLED clean, and felt welcoming. I wish some of the info was more up front for guests but ultimately if I needed to be in the area and now having familiarity with the place, I would stay here again.

Perfect location and property

We loved this property! We went to a concert on campus and it took us less than 10 minutes to drive over. We walked across the street for dinner to an amazing sushi restaurant. We also ate around the corner from campus on our break after early entry to the concert, we were back within 30-30 minutes. The apartment itself was more than enough space, especially with two large walk in closets. Having 2 full bathrooms and was a huge plus also. The dishwasher and washer and dryer are bonuses! The directions to stay were perfect, it seemed tricky to get in when we read it but if you follow exactly there were no hiccups. The extra space with the pool table also included a full kitchen and living room to relax as well as another outdoor patio with seating. The hot tub wasn’t open as expected but the pool and hot tub area looked amazing. Make sure you bring a blow dryer if needed and k-cups if you drink coffee. They included necessary items for the stay. And most importantly for was the bed was comfortable! The second bedroom did not include a tv but that’s not a necessity. The owner was more than accommodating, they responded almost immediately to any questions. My daughter and I will be back!

Beautiful Apartment!

Everything was great! Check-In was easy with clear instructions. Very convenient parking in a garage attached to the building. The building is newer and in a great location close to restaurants, shopping, etc and a short ride to OSU, Short North and downtown Columbus. The unit itself was nicely appointed, very clean, spacious and quiet. We have two kids at OSU and visit this area frequently. This is one of the best stays we have had in 6 years and would love to rent again in the future!

Could have been perfect BUT

Lockbox was not labeled and didn’t get the code until requested 3 times. No towels, no sheets or pillow cases on the beds nor in the unit. Multiple attempts to contact through VRBO failed. Finally emailed and called after calling VRBO for help. Sheets were new when delivered the 2nd day, but had not been washed. Unit was clean, but clean dishes were inside the dishwasher and while my husband was in the shower two women entered the door to clean! Two TVS but one remote and although we received an apology from the host, we requested a credit, and he said that he would credit us, but we have heard nothing more. Unacceptable VRBO
