"I requested breakfast but was told they didn’t do it anymore. The stairs were cramped with 2 turns and inadequate/absent rails. We did not meet any staff. There was a note saying how we could ring them. The hot and cold water at the wash basin were plumbed in the wrong way round. I did not see any indicator for which was hot or cold. It matters because this is where you fill the kettle. The bed was comfortable and the room was warm."

The restaurant was the good part of the experience, with friendly staff who were happy to accommodate a late request for a table & the food was excellent and well priced. My room (room 12) was not great. There is no lock from the inside, just an external handle which doesn't turn to prevent entry without a key. "The grounds and the hotel were absolutely stunning! We were delighted with our bedroom suite. The hotel can boast an interesting history; on the wall in the restaurant is a wooden plaque, with a gilded list of previous head girls from 1937 when the hotel was run as a school. The beautiful stained glass windows on the staircase are evidence of the previous importance of the building.
