  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud. This is the second time this year that our knitting group stayed here. It’s a fantastic home and the views from the property are beautiful. The home is so well built and lovely. I’ve not seen a better stocked kitchen and pantry although we struggled with the oven a bit. It takes a while to preheat and then when the timer went off, we kept turning off the oven also. The bedroom and bathrooms are just lovely and comfortable. We will be back I’m sure.

We stayed at this property with our 3 adult children. We were visiting for a wedding. It could have slept another large family comfortably. The property was cleaned and has everything you’d need. We enjoyed having coffee in the mornings overlooking the river. We sat by the outdoor fire and saw eagles and groups of kayakers. It is secluded and so quiet. Loved it!

Great location with excellent access to the Clackamas river for rafting and floating. The house was nicely appointed although it could be improved slightly with king sized beds to accommodate large adults or families with kids. The area was nice and quiet and filled with wildlife like bunnies and deer. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Beautiful!

The place was beautiful and clean. The view of the river was wonderful. Kitchen was fully stocked. Getting there is a bit of an adventure, as it's off the beaten path, but the directions provided were great. The only downside of staying there was several pages of rules for the home which were overwhelming.

We were up for a rafting school on the upper clackamas. The house was gorgeous, quiet, well supplied with cooking utensils. Everyone had their own room. Had a fantastic weekend at your home!

Knitting Retreat by the Clackamas

Our group had a great time at Riverview Lodge on the Clackamas River. The home is wonderfully built and very solid. We were very pleased and somewhat surprised at the attention to detail especially in the bathrooms and kitchen. The kitchen AND pantry are extremely well equipped with an electric tea kettle, slow cooker, etc. The beds and bedrooms are very homey and comfortable with good bedding, mattresses, and pillows. We can’t wait to return.

Riverview lodge on the Clackamas

This home is beautiful and has just about everything you need. We stayed 5 nights. Saw fisherman and deer. Had a bonfire one night. This was a thanksgiving and early Christmas get together with 2 adult children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our only complaint was that the compost can was left with moldy scraps under the sink, which attracted fruit flies. They ended up all over the place and we had to swat them away. There was laminated rules everywhere which is off putting but we obliged.

Wonderful property

Family Weekend

We had a wedding to attend in the area and this was a wonderful place for us and our grown and almost grown children to stay. Plenty of room inside and out to visit and relax. Really enjoyed the fire pit and large kitchen/living room. Would definitely recommend for a family vacation in the woods.

Wonderful House on the Clackamas River

We chose this spacious and lovely home for a family gathering to celebrate the marriage of our son and now daughter in law. We flew in from Maine and the others came from New Mexico and Washington and we all agreed the home on the river was perfect! The spacious rooms allowed all 10 of us plenty of space to roam and dine together comfortably. The kitchen was well equipped for meal prep and dining. The bathrooms were clean and had fresh towels, and the washer and dryers on the 1st and 2nd floors were so convenient. The property is private and we loved the views of the river from the first floor patio and especially from the 2nd floor balcony. There were a lot of instructions throughput the house and for departure which we respected and checked off as we prepared to leave.

It was scenic, comfortable and beautiful. The only downside was the insecurity of the location. Glad I didn't travel at night. Made a couple of wrong turns, but ultimately got there safely.

Amazing House!

Pictures do not do this house justice! So beautiful inside and out. The road does look a little creepy if you arrive at night but push past that. There are a lot of laminated rules all over the house but they aren't unreasonable. Loved our stay there!

Great river view

The property was beautiful, very clean, and well kept. The views of the river from the house were great. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Everything is organized and labeled. We were very impressed by the amount of towels and wash cloths available. For a group of 10, it was a plus! We arrived very late at night with no porch light being on and the door would not open. We did contact the owner and he resolved the issue. There was a lot of rules to follow and it was a little stressful and caused some in our group to not relax. All of the recycling having to be washed out, separated and put in separate cans outside was a lot and we are still unsure if we did it correctly. It would be helpful for pictures to be posted on each can. We did vacuum and sweep before leaving for fear of losing the security deposit. The loose bricks on the walkway is very dangerous and need to be fixed. If you don’t want to watch every little thing and every person to make sure a rule is not broken so you don’t lose your deposit then you may want to stay elsewhere. If you want a large, comfortable, clean place with many activities to do at the house and in the area then I recommend staying. We did enjoy being on the river.

Stunning Property and View

This was a beautiful property. It worked very well for our extended family visit. The river was gorgeous and property was quiet and yet minutes from all types of activities. We played cornhole and visited outside for hours.
