After a tornado destroyed parts of our neighborhood in March, the pandemic, quarantines, virtual school, and finally a Christmas Day bombing a couple of miles from our Nashville home, relaxing by this mesmerizing lake for a week was exactly what we needed to recover and bid farewell to 2020. The cabin is delightfully cozy, with everything we needed for the week. My favorite room was the glass enclosed den/sunroom facing the lake, where I curled up with a book on the chaise lounge and where our six year old ran to every morning to enjoy the sunrise and some bird watching.
The large yard was perfect for the kids to run and play freely, especially coming from a house in the city. We enjoyed morning coffee and evening meals and cocktails on the quiet dock. The lake is absolutely beautiful, and my family thoroughly enjoyed using the kayaks and fishing in it, every single day. The kids were delighted to catch several fish!
We ordered grocery delivery from Publix on our drive in, so we were able to have a fully stocked kitchen before breakfast the next morning. The pantry was already stocked with essentials like spices and oil when we arrived. The town of Dunnellon was less than a ten minute drive for anything we needed. We mostly cooked, but did order takeout from nearby Gyros King one night and it was great! We did a couple of excursions to Crystal River to see the manatees and Rainbow Springs State Park, both within a thirty minute drive.
The weather was sunny and 70's every day, making this location such a fabulous destination for those escaping the winter.
We could not be more appreciative to the owner for sharing this wonderful property with us, helping give us a renewed sense of hope as we welcomed in the new year.
