I really wanted to love this property. It is a nice house, well restored and maintained, and is in a fantastic location. The village of Charlbury is an ideal base for exploring everything in the area. The house has plenty of interesting history, well-kept gardens, comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. On the surface, everything appears great.Unfortunately, on the downside, the house had an overpowering smell of "wet dog." We could not use the living room or dining room because the smell was so strong. It hits you like a wall when you enter the house. If you have pets, it might not be an issue, but it was very distracting for us. The smoke alarms in the house went off randomly and persistently several times a day, including the early morning. The owner has cameras in the front and back gardens, which discouraged us from using the seating areas outside. Finally, the parking situation is not ideal. There is permit parking outside the house and throughout the village. The house has a driveway for four cars, but we were asked not to use it, which we found a bit strange. The negatives outweighed the positives, which is a shame because this could be an excellent property. We enjoyed the location and village, but the house not so much.
