A wonderful hotel, great atmosphere, and staff are very friendly. Great breakfast, four poster bed extremely comfortable and room is lovely. Only downside is the shower, more a trickle. Will return when visiting family..

Another gem - great hospitality, really pleasant atmosphere. Comfortable bed, super shower, amazing bathroom mirror with integrated bluetooth speaker. Lots of history... how old is it? Good question..... really old, loads of history - tight parking. Very good breakfast too. Again, best review is that I'd go back if travelling that way again. Oh yes, almost forgot.... big telly, four poster bed, lots of interesting pictures, some ancient flagstones, some fascinating things in a display cabinet. I was told that the Norfolk Gem would have been a good pint if it had been on that night - had a Guinness and a dram instead - well stocked bar if that's your thing.

A business trip where simple comforts are 'a must'. Great atmosphere in the very comfortable bar. Food is superb. The bed is very comfortable ..... I'll be back !!

A pleasant night
Friendly staff, and warm room, with plenty of choices of refreshment. Good value for money. Breakfast was good but paper table cloths with marks on need changing for every customer. Stair case carpet could do with a clean.

Friendly Host and staff. Clean, and food excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and anything we asked for was done. Rooms in the process of a refurb, so will no doubt soon be upgraded.

A friendly pub with atmosphere
Really friendly staff, good food, quirky and atmospheric room as the pub dates back to 1560s. Bathroom dated but good water pressure and temperature on shower and clean. Caution if you have movement problems- the stairs are steep! Would stay again.

Historic and charming
This is a very old and historic building so it’s not like staying at Premier Inn! There were stairs but they were well lit. Our room was charming with a comfortable four-poster bed and vintage dressing table. The floor boards creaked and sloped a bit downhill but… … the en suite was spotless, the shower hot and easy to use. Even the extractor-fan worked well, which is unusual anywhere. There was a selection of tea /coffee and biscuits and a fresh bottle of water each every day; our room carefully serviced every morning. Full English breakfast was good and the evening menu offered a lot of choice of delicious, well-presented meals, reasonably priced. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. There is a car park in the back courtyard of the building. We had a lovely weekend with trips to three National Trust properties that were within about 30 miles distance. I would recommend Cross Keys Hotel s somewhere a little bit out of the ordinary but charming.

You'll need to manage your expectations...
Firstly, let me say that the owners were trying hard and were perfectly pleasant. If I'd paid £60 it would have been passable, but when you pay over £100 per night you expect certain standards which just weren't met. The room was tired and noisy, bed was very uncomfortable, shower was just a dribble... The food was OK-ish for the price as long as you aren't expecting anything fancy. Someone asked for the wine list and the reply was "we have red or white"! In these difficult financial times I don't like knocking people who are trying, but before you book here you really need to manage your expectations. It really isn't much more than a 5 out of 10.

Lovely old, rustic location with great staff. We would like to give a special mention to the waitress that did a double shift (18-19/06). Sorry we didn't get your name but your were fabulous, a credit to yourself and the hotel. Thank you. The food here was great and the room comfortable. My only minor negative is that the car park has very limited space but there is on street parking nearby but you need to be aware of restrictions during the week.

Disappointing
very old building around late C14 apparently. That doesn't excuse filthy windows & secondary double glazing, unclean toilet bowl etc etc. The en suite was spatially challenged to say the least. Also very dated: 1970s Avocado units, cheap plastic, carpeted floor...eugh! Not somewhere I'd recommend I'm afraid

What a pub with food and accomm should be
Extremely good. Check in was welcoming and efficient, room and whole building manage to combine genuine old style decor with none of the shabbiness and grubbiness that sometimes goes with it.

The owner of the hotel was always about and very attentive - the staff were excellent and very friendly. They all couldn't do enough for me when my husband suffered a heart attack when we were staying there and got whisked off to hospital in an ambulance. I felt very safe and cared for during the rest of my stay.

Not my personal taste but amazing service
The service we received was brilliant, friendly and welcoming. The hotel is a quaint little family run hotel with an old English feel. Aesthetically I loved it. However, and these are just personal things as my partner absolutely adored the cross keys hotel, due to the listed status of the building the room we were staying in had to have a macerator in the bathroom which was quite noisy. Personally I think I prefer more modern appliances; but like I said my partner absolutely loved it. In the morning we were again greeted with a warm and friendly service, breakfast was as expected.

OK - so here's the thing. I generally don't like to leave a negative review, but this is the first time i have ever paid for, but decided not to stay in a hotel. The check in guy was OK; friendly enough, but if I was to guess the last time this place had a lick of paint, new carpets or any sort of TLC I reckon it was in the 1980s. It may have been 'clean' but it didn't feel that way, due to the ancient curtains, carpets etc. The car parking area looked like a junk yard, the only way in and out was through a busy bar, the carpet was threadbare, old and dirty, the bedroom had a 4 poster that has seen better days, the bathroom is definitely 30 years out of date, and in the end, we felt so uncomfortable in that dingy room that we decided not to stay, and booked in somewhere else instead. Say it how you find it......
