The cottage was awesome and just as described. Very clean and stocked with everything needed and then some. The decor in the cottage was absolutely beautiful. Perfect getaway for 36th anniversary. The property was beautiful and so relaxing sitting on the patio at night with the lights. All the animals were so cute especially Donkay when he gives you that big smile. Steve and Gayle were great. They were awesome hosts. Hope to return again some day.

This ranch cottage was absolutely perfect for our 15th anniversary trip. The love and care the owners put in to the property is so evident. The landscaping is beautiful and you’re given access to wander the property and visit the animals. The cottage had all the things to make traveling easy. All we needed to pick up was some groceries. It was so nice having a fully stocked kitchen so we could cook if we didn’t want to go out to eat. The drive into Yosemite takes a bit of time, but the drive itself is so picturesque and we enjoyed being a bit further out. We also spent a day bumming around in Mariposa which has some cute shops and restaurants. The property itself is so quiet and the number of stars we could see was breathtaking. All the animals on the property made me smile often. I enjoyed seeing the cows and their calves come up to the fence in the mornings while having coffee on the covered porch. The outdoor bathtub was perfect for relaxing in after a long and strenuous day of hiking on the Mist and John Muir trails to see Vernal and Nevada falls. We were even blessed with a super moon while there. I highly recommend going to hike the trails in the Mariposa Grove of the Giant Sequoias. That was one of the highlights of our trip. Something about standing next to 2000 year old trees is just magical. Thank you Gayle and Stephen for opening up your home to us for this experience.

A wonderful place, spacious, comfortable and relaxing. So much space inside and shaded outside space e BBQ and gardens. There is even a ute, not often seen in the US. A little off the beaten track but all the better for that. Outstanding. Didn't want to leave.

We stayed for three nights as part of our California road trip. It was definitely the highlight of our trip. Lovely cottage, fantastic location, so peaceful. We loved the outside bath and shower, walking around the ranch with the horses and donkeys and watching the sunrise and sunset from the viewing platform. This is a perfect base for visiting Yosemite National Park and Mariposa Grove. The hosts were lovely and helpful. We made some fantastic memories and would love to return in the future.

The property was amazing! The instructions provided for check-in were very detailed and useful. We enjoyed walking around in the morning saying hi to the horses and donkeys. We especially enjoyed going to the deck above to watch the stars at night. We will definitely be back!

So lucky to have found

Our five-night stay at the RoundHat Cottage was beyond our expectations. The description and photos are accurate, though photos cannot capture the utter beauty and serenity this cottage has to offer. After spending our days exploring the parks at Yosemite, King’s Canyon and Sequoia, coming “home” was just as restorative, especially with sweet donkeys and beautiful sunsets (don’t miss the sunset from the deck at “Rocky Top”). Steve and Gayle were wonderful hosts. Everything we needed was in the cottage, so we cooked a lot of meals and took a lot of outdoor showers :) We highly recommend and would love to return! - Paul & Tom

Loved the landscape and the owners’ good taste and efforts in decorating the cottage. It’s clean and comfortable. Loved the backyard with swing and outdoor tub. More importantly, we love the host’s warm welcome and flexibility to help us checking in earlier. All were great! We enjoyed our stay there fully.

This was such a fun place to stay. We really enjoyed ending our day by walking around the property to pet the horses and donkeys, while watching the sunset. The cottage was comfy and has a beautiful patio to enjoy your morning coffee. The hosts are very kind and gave us many suggestions for our trip to Yosemite as well.

This might be the best VRBO we’ve ever stayed in. The cottage was absolutely charming—super clean, cozy, and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable long weekend near Yosemite. The location was incredibly convenient—just a short drive to the park, making it the perfect home base for exploring. It’s an ideal getaway spot for couples looking for a peaceful, romantic escape. Check-in was seamless, and communication with the hosts was prompt and helpful. One of the highlights was spending time with the friendly horses and donkeys on the property—such a unique and memorable touch. We’ll definitely be coming back and will gladly recommend this gem to any friends or family visiting Yosemite!

Excellent in every way

Sweet getaway

This was such a great stay. The house is super cozy and bed very comfy. We loved the outdoor soaking tub and wandering around checking out all the animals. Just beautiful! I would definitely stay here again

Beautiful home

Our stay at this beautiful ranch was absolutely perfect! The property is stunning, with breathtaking views, charming animals, and a peaceful atmosphere that made it hard to leave. The location is ideal—close enough to Yosemite for easy day trips, yet far enough to enjoy the quiet serenity of the countryside. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. This is truly a hidden gem, and we can’t wait to come back!

Perfection!!

Wow - what can I say, this place is amazing. We stayed for 3 nights explored Yosemite and surrounding area, if you want a perfect location with amazing host’s I can’t recommend this place highly enough, it takes approx 1.30hrs to get into the park, but the drive is easy and scenery is amazing…The cottage is exactly as described and so far our favourite location whilst touring around the area.If we ever come back to visit the area, we will definitely be back…1st rate 👌

Comfort on the ranch

Wonderful place, just as described. Very comfortable and relaxing after full days in the park. The drive to and from the park is about 40 miles but the drive is beautiful and Mariposa down the road is a fun town to stop and have a beer or something to eat on the way back. Once you get back you will forget about the drive. Great amenities including the outdoor shower and covered patio. We loved it!

Isolated charming ranch cottage for 2. Hosts Gayle & Stephen friendly & accessible if needed. Fun to walk around & see the horses, donkeys, mule, & other animals on site. Quiet & relaxing, comfortable retreat site with outdoor patio & great view of stars at night. 25 min drive from Mariposa & 1hr to Yosemite entrance.
