Perfect!

This house was perfect for our family and friends. The location was somewhat remote, very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the sunsets every night. We were able to cook, and the outdoor patio was perfect for our gatherings. There was access to multiple beaches in the area, volcanoes national Park, Hilo, and Kona.

Take me back to Puhala!!

We had a wonderful stay in Pahala, Hawaii! The home was very comfortable and clean, with a killer view of the sunset that we looked forward to every evening. The location in Captain Cook was ideal—perfectly situated between Kona and all its attractions, and also within easy reach of Hilo and Volcano Village. It made exploring both sides of the island super convenient. Highly recommend!

Best view ever.

In Hawaii for the holidays and first time on the big island. The house was perfect for us and having a pool for the kids was great. We went all over the island and tried to see all the “must sees” and having the volcano erupt the day after we were there will be something we talk about for years.

Lovely home with an amazing view

We all loved our stay. Our only issue was not being able to find the local beach. In our attempt to find it we were harassed by some locals so we gave up looking.

Great views and very nice house

Amazing ocean views and well kept and maintained property. We found the owner (Nancy) to be very communicative and left very detailed operating instructions. The house is well maintained. We had 4 kids and 6 adults and had plenty of space for all.

Beautiful setting, beautiful house! There are some small issues with facets needing to be tightened and the cockroaches in a couple of the bedrooms. But we understand they were on the island first... The lack of AC was an issue for us. We had someone who got sick in Oahu and went to ER leaving her with a hard time breathing due to the humidity. I think the lack of AC needs to be strongly stated. The driveway was a challenge. With two vehicles due to the size of our group, it was always tight getting them in.Loved the deck and having the pool - what a view..!!

Stunning Home

This is a gorgeous home, very quiet and private, with a huge and well-appointed patio that maximizes the dramatic views. We enjoyed cooking in, relaxing and reading, and hiking to Honomalino beach for snorkeling and swimming. After hiking down from the house to the water and back up the very steep hills, we wisely decided to drive to the bottom and park before doing our daily exercise along the water! This was a good location to get to the volcano, however it was a bit isolated in terms of having access to nearby restaurants. Only negatives for us were the very small and cold pool, and the VOG that unfortunately was present most days of our stay, which prevented our being able to see any sunsets. Linda was very responsive and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay.

Would not recommend this property

I am not sure what happened between 2008 and December 2010 when we stayed here but I would not recommend this place to anyone Aside from the fact we arrived and the place was a mess, we had to ask for our first night rental back after the owner promised to refund and to this date, have not received our security deposit back, again after the owner promised to send it to us. This place is an unorganized mess and is not what is promised on the site. In regards to amenities: listings are not accurate Property well maintained: no Good Customer service:no Recommend to anyone: no The beach here is amazing.. definately would go back to the beach...

I've stayed in several VRBOs but this one by far has been the best. The house came fully stocked with essentials needed to make our stay wonderful. Super clean!Our host Nancy was awesome! She responded very quickly to all requests I sent to her. She allowed us a little extra time for arrival and departure requests. Wonderful hostess!Our views were phenomenal! We were lucky enough to have a full moon and able to capture it. Just awesome! The house was well furnished and the deck was great! We had no problem of being too hot with the exception of day 1. But we just opened the windows and turned on the many fans available. Nancy's binder contained everything needed to know about the home, the island, and restaurants. Very thorough. The black sand beach close by was awesome. It did take a bit of a hike but it was well worth it. Remote but beautiful to say the least. Snorkeling equipment was available as well coolers.The most used place in the home was the game room. Our grandson was shooting pool most of the time we were in the home. It was a amenity that was enjoyed by all.There was plenty of space for us to relax and wind down (couches inside and out), have enough seating for the nine of us to eat comfortably at tables, and enough beds for all of us. Two of the grandkids did have to double up but that wasn't a problem. The road there was very winding but after a few days we acclimated to them. After that - no problem.Overall, I highly recommend!

Captain Cook

The house and accuracy of the listing was great. I would consider the lack of AC when booking. My family and I aren't as adjusted to the heat. There was a good breeze with windows open and cooled down overnight. I would stay here again.

View to die for

We stayed with 10 members of extended family in June 2022 for 9 nights at Puhala Hale. Overall, the experience was terrific. The house was beautiful. Well stocked with everything you need.The Best part of this property is the amazing ocean view. The pool is extremely small.Our 7 year old enjoyed it-, he's the only one. The road down and the driveway are extremely steep,narrow, and windy. Also,if you Stay here,be prepared to drive a lot to do things.Kona is a good hour away,and it's the closest! Also,the local beach that was spoken of we did not get to because it was. 8 mile hike to get to it. That aside, this rental fit our needs a d we recommend it especially for large families.

Loved our stay

We had two families together at the house and it was perfect. The house was well equipped with anything you needed. The beach close to the house was our favorite! No crowd., dolphins and snorkeling. Make sure to wear your sneakers as you will not have happy feet it you try reef shoes or flips. Great vacation.

secluded getaway

This is a beautiful house in a fairly remote area, perfect for anyone wanting privacy and quiet time. It's on a large property located on a steep hill overlooking the fishing village of Milolii and the view is panoramic. The kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering, and the common areas, both indoor and the outdoor lanai, are spacious. There is a nice games room with a pool table and some games. There is no railing around most of the deck, not ideal for small children. There are a few fruit stands with cheap and excellent seasonal fruit very nearby. The nearest groceries and restaurants are at Ocean View, about a half hour drive, and they are very limited and expensive! Good to stock up in Kona before you arrive. The nearest beach, at Honomalina Bay, is gorgeous with very few people. It's about a 10 minute drive to the coast and then a 20 minute moderate hike to the beach. No amenities and no life guard. The next nearest beach is at Ho'okena, about a 35 minute drive north; lots of amenities. Great snorkeling at both beaches, but be sure to bring your own gear - there really isn't any functional gear at the house.

Excellent stay: enjoyed each moment at the house

We enjoyed staying at this house: magnificient view on the ocean, very well equipped with pool and pool. The common areas are comfortable. We would have prefered a home closer to the best beaches such as Hapuna and Magic, but probably not possible to have such a house closer... We recommend this house.

Beautiful home in Milolii, HI

Thank you, Nancy for sharing your beautiful home with our family. We loved the outdoor patio to enjoy the amazing ocean views, watch the sunsets and dip our feet into the pool during the warm afternoons. The kids brought their own tablets, and they enjoyed playing in the billiard room a few times. We cooked meals, read books, lounged and explored the island. Your house is spacious and offered so many amenities to make us feel at home. We loved watching the geckos, the goats eating on the hillside plus the cats who came to visit in the evenings. Your home was perfect for our family to have our own rooms and congregate in the kitchen and living room. We wished we had a longer vacation. We strongly recommend renting this house to anybody. It was so peaceful and quiet. The driveway is steep, but we figured it out. We can't say enough about your home. Thank you for making our family vacation one of our favorites. The photos don't say enough! The view and house are amazing!

We flew into Kona Airport and drove directly to the house. The numbers at the top of the drive are not lighted and were a little hard to see in the dusk. But what a treat awaited us at the end of the cement driveway. There were 6 adults and 4 elementary school aged children who had space to enjoy the home. We would add bug spray to the list of things to bring and we left some behind to share with the next guests. There is no air conditioning but it was never a concern. There are fans everywhere and the evenings cool down in the lava mountain. We spent time at the volcano, took advantage of the hints on bakery, restaurants and shopping that were part of the listing. We all hated our time to end! Beaches are convenient and we did snorkeling and kayaking nearby. Our kids were lucky enough to see spinning dolphins and swam with turtles on a black beach. We bought local fruit and fish and ate out on the patio at night. Great kitchen, pool room and washer and dryer. The water provided was perfect and we refilled it for the next visitors. Only $1.50 in Ocean View nearby. We also had 2 dinners at Mele's on Route 11 about 6 miles away. Great service and fresh fish. Strong w-ifi and great secure internet connection. This was a family celebration and this VRBO made it even better.

Great Escape for our family of 6!

If you like quiet and peaceful...this is for you! Great views of the ocean and very comfortable setting. The hammock and watching the birds at the bird feeder were my favorites! Our teens (4) loved the pool table...didn't use the pool as we were out doing the touristy thing most of the day. It was nice coming back to comfortable beds after long days of sightseeing. The owners have provided most everything you could ask for...washer, dryer, beach towels, even a wine refrigerator!! Mahalo Nancy for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. It was a pleasure talking with you as well as Carol. She was a gem!

Family Vacation

This house is beautiful! We wanted a vacation place near South Point and not overrun with tourists but at the same time, we wanted to be close enough to visit both the Hilo and Kona sides of the island, the location was perfect. Our flight arrived late and GPS did not work so I advise printing directions in advance and maybe using google to familiarize yourself with the area a little bit. My sister freaked about the driveway being so steep and navigating the rental car in the parking area was tricky. However, we had two men on this trip so we just tossed them the keys. The only other thing I would mention is that the pool table equipment wasn't in good condition. The cues were missing tips or broken. We managed to salvage a single stick and took turns which was great since we played pool almost every night. Everything else was beautiful. The house is huge and lovely, the kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with everything we needed. We stopped at the Walmart in Kona on the way in for staple items since we were staying for several days and then took advantage of the small grocery store in Ocean View (best prices FOR SURE in the area). We cooked most of our meals in the kitchen or on the grill, only eating out a few times during our stay. The view was spectacular and I pretty much lived in the hammock outside my bedroom. I would absolutely rent this house again.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful home. What a great place. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the views were incrdible. The house is beautifully decorated, the kitchen was terrific to work in, fully stocked with appliances like a blender and waffle iron. We appreciated finding a few items we had forgotten like spices and coffee filters. We even played pool in a wonderful game room when we werent sitting out under the stars. We loved hearing the birds in the morning and being away from the crowds in Kona. There is a welcoming vibe, and the experience is totally casual yet gracious. The local spots like Honomolino, the markets in Ocean View, and easy day trips to Kona and South Point make it a good place to stay between excursions..It is in the dry part of the island, heavenly! We circumnavigated the island in a week's time with an overnight in Volcano. Always glad to get back to our place on the hill. We will recommend this spot to others.

Absolutely Beautiful
