Thank you so much for the feedback, Anthony! We use the August lock system so that our guests always have a secure access code since it generates new codes automatically for each stay. When we upgraded our internet access during the off season and it reset all of our codes and we had no idea until you came to check in. We have re-created new codes for all existing reservations to help make sure no one has to reach out to get into the house :) Our cleaning crew wanted to express their thanks to you for the care and consideration you showed for our home during your stay. Hi Kay! Thanks so much for writing a review. I wish you had let me know any of these things during your visit so that I could address them at the time, rather than receiving a poor review without an opportunity to correct the issues. I'm sorry to hear there wasn't any firewood. We did speak several times during your visit and our property manager is always available to bring wood if there isn't any at the home if guests let us know. Since you asked me how to build a fire, I assumed there was still wood at the home. Per our listing, we do provide our guests with firewood and propane and would have been happy to deliver it had we known there was none at the home. Regarding the downstairs, there is an in wall gas powered heater (also pictured in the home photos). I mentioned this to you when I spoke to you during your visit and let you know the instructions for operating it were in the home manual. The instructions for the hot tub are also in there but we would have been happy to walk you through it had I known you were having a hard time. We can't do much about the bugs in the windows outside with it being in the woods. We do have an exterminator that visits regularly and our cleaners clean the windows on each visit but that is a very large window and tends to attract bugs if the lights are left on. I'm not sure how much more detailed I can be in my listing about the home's distance to the water. We even hired a drone photographer so our listing photos would be as accurate as possible. Thank you for the note, Carol! This is actually the same design for the lower level as well. The architects designed the deck to maximize the view while meeting all safety and building codes but we know it isn't the standard flat deck with a railing that many other locations offer. For this reason, I've highlighted the deck in many of our photos on our listing. Both the upper and lower deck is pictured on our listing from several different views so prospective guests can choose if it will be a fit for themselves and their families. We have added lights and widened stairs over the years at the suggestion of our guests but would not change the structure as it would block one of our guests favorite feature - The view! We do recommend in our safety booklet in the home that small children are not left on the deck without supervision. We definitely thank you for your visit and hope you have a wonderful day!

I'm so sorry to hear you were dissatisfied. I didn't get that impression from our frequent messages. I had no idea you were driving up in advance of your check in time. I didn't receive a phone call at all, only messages from vrbo the day of notifying us that you had not received entry information. Our account is set up to automatically send lock details and we had no visibility beyond your message to know it was not sent. The area is super remote, which is the draw for many. There are gas in wall heaters downstairs so the room should never be cold if they are turned on. There are instructions to turn them on in our home manual. We are sorry we couldn't help the weather during your stay but hopefully our otherwise 5 star reviews will be enough to maintain the rating we have worked hard to hold since we opened in 2017.

We're out in the country and our trash is picked up by a father and son who drive a pickup truck who pick up the trash by hand. Most guests bag all their trash and the $50 fee has never really had to be used. But after several left unbagged trash and our cleaning people charged us $100 each time to bag old diapers and pizza crusts and beer cans by hand in the rain, we had to start charging. We don't have enough money to keep the home and pay that out of pocket all the time. We increased the fee and posted signage in the house in two different places, both on the fridge and in the home's manual that we place on the counter for everyone to read. Yes, we neglected to update the rental agreement. So when this guest left and our cleaning crew had to rebag numerous beer cans and boxes and other unbagged trash (not from animals, we've been in the woods a long time and can tell the difference) we happily refunded the difference and updated the rental agreement. This bad review has cost us a status we worked hard over several years to earn. We depend on this site to keep this home in the family for our children. We have removed them from the list of people we would consider renting to in the future and hope the numerous repeat renters and 5 star reviews will help us regain our Premier Host ranking as we continue to help families make memories at Dale Hollow for many years to come.

Hannah! You and your party were wonderful houseguests! I apologize there wasn't a sponge, we typically use the dish rags so we can toss them in the washer. I'll have some stocked for since use though in case guests prefer them. Thanks for the tip! As for recycling, Im sorry! Trash service is a trash or nothing proposition there.
