My first impression was of dim lighting - light bulbs that were burned out - and a strobe light effect in the living room when the ceiling fan was on. The home was spacious, but not the standard of excellence that we would expect for the premium price we paid. The kitchen was sparsely equipt. The carpet in the upper level was very grimy & well-worn. The choice of everything from paper towels to dish soap was the cheapest option possible.
We loved the bikes, but did not understand that we would need to rent a separate set of bikes to bike on Jekyll Island.
The pool was closed by the city inspector during our visit because of a lapsed permit. This was very disappointing to our kids. We rented this condo specifically to have the pool for our children while our oldest was attending an academic competition. We expected that we would be reimbursed for the lack of being able to use the pool. Up to this point, what had been the biggest positive of our experience was our communication with our host. After we checked out, she begrudgingly refunded just a few dollars of our bill & responded with very negative text messages.
An important thing to know is that the host expects her guests to do 3 loads of laundry (wash & dry cycles) before checking out prior to 10am. This includes all of the sheets, bedding, & towels. We stay at many rental properties & I have never seen such an expectation.
Overall, I left this rental with a bittersweet taste in my mouth.
