Just some things to be aware of, in case anyone missed the details (like us) and plan on staying here:
-Address is technically on the Fond du Lac reservation, not physically in Cloquet, MN and only on MapQuest, not Google as it's read on this site. Once in Cloquet, it's about 20 minutes drive down a gravel road that's under construction. Be sure to have a vehicle that can handle this. Luckily we did.
-Be sure to also have a phone service that can handle this. Unfortunately, we did not. But, with WiFi we thought we would be fine. We were not.
-Pontoon is at least 20 years old, we were warned after signing up that the motor does not run well WITH the cover on it, it smokes and grinds loudly when started, and the side rail/door does not fully/easily close. It also occasionally putters out when you try to start it. If you're inexperienced, or don't know much about pontoons, or happen to be slightly naive adventure seekers, like me, I personally do not recommend renting this (or any) pontoon to date unless it is certified or otherwise proven sufficiently to you in person that it will run smoothly for the full time you have it and be safe while you are on the lake, as we were paddling it in circles for a while before being spotted by a friendly neighbor with a tow... no fun.
Of course, if you own a boat, and it is allowed, you can avoid much of the trouble we experienced and this place will suit you just great! It's quiet, peaceful, remote, cozy and clean.
We unfortunately left the first night because of our phone situation and the fact that what drew us there, the pontoon, was not what we envisioned. Let me emphasize that I'm fully aware of our mistakes and mis-judgement in booking this residence for a vacation spot and having good faith that the boat would be in great working condition, be easy to learn as we were told and it would be the relaxing getaway we imagined.
Everyone has different needs when traveling, especially to remote places. Unfortunately it was just not what we required as travelers and we had to cut our trip short and cut our losses. Lesson here: be sure to double check these things if, like us, you are inexperienced.
All that said, Glory our host was personable and great about responding quickly to emails, getting us a refund for the boat rental and was apologetic and we thank her for hosting and sharing her place with us.
