Full disclosure: We were fully aware we were renting an older historical home in the historical district. From the pictures, I knew it would not be brand new with huge spaces. However, the spaces felt smaller upon arrival. Coming from Texas, we are spoiled with square footage. Someone from NYC might say the space felt huge. Some examples: Vanities in bathrooms are very small, no closets in master bedroom, washer can fit 8-10 articles of clothing per wash (hard with kiddos playing outside all day).
PROS: updated technology (newer tv’s with all the apps: Netflix, Hulu, amazon etc), big sectional couch for relaxing, perfect outdoor space: fenced for pets/privacy, hot tub, dining table, Adirondacks,), bedrooms upstairs in case anyone wants to escape upstairs to sleep, heated bathroom floors upstairs, heated toilet seat downstairs (crowd favorite!), lots of leftover condiments from guests or owner (helpful for cooking in)
CONS: no AC for summer days (only window fans), extremely steep stair case right at entry (hard to little kids and smaller dogs), dead bees found in all window cases, poor lighting upstairs
If you’re looking to stay in the historical district, this is a great house overall. Just beware of the staircase, lack of AC, and small(er) spaces. We’d stay again.
