Management was accommodating when we asked to check in a little early. And the location is great.
The back door was wide open, and the house smelled wet and musty. There was a large, muddy stain on the master bedspread, and the bedding in the bunk room was tussled. The muddy spot on the bed was in the shape of a large dog and came out after I washed it, so it could have been an easy fix.
Maintenance came to change the fridge filter but only reset the light. While there, we mentioned that the dining chairs were caving in and basically unusable. He said he knew and that the owners wouldn't replace them.
Then our young niece fell when the bunkbed steps tipped because they hadn't been attached. We were able to lean them to a severe, dangerous angle with one finger, so a child was defenseless. The steps should have been attached to ensure safety.
Windows wouldn't close all the way. There was a sharp screw protruding from the side of a cabinet. The downstairs bath was embarrassing. The dishwasher tips. The range is falling apart. The jest on the hot tub were duds. The short term rental license is expired. There was trash in the yard, and the yard was a bunch of weeds.
We asked management to drop in so we could discuss the house, but they would not. They called. She said they were very busy with 50 homes and that it’s “difficult to keep up with all of the things that need to be done.” Maybe 50 homes is too many; maybe this particular home is too dangerous? Regardless, safety should be a priority.
