Super house for a getaway with friends

Lovely garden, lovely view, comfortable beds and all amenities- what's not to love? Walking distance to village with pubs, ice cream, restaurants, perfect for us escaping London!

Sunset Beach

We booked Sunset Beach as a last minute booking towards the end of summer. Although the weather wasn't great, the accommodation didn't disappoint. Sunset Beach has recently gone through some serious renovations which leave the place feeling new and modern. There was the odd snag as you would expect, but this didn't impact our stay at all. The bedrooms are roomy and well presented, there are a couple of lovely ensuites and there is good space across the 3 floors. The location of Sunset Beach is convenient for walking into Croyde and walking to the beach - both are easily accessible. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can recommend the accommodation to others wanting to spend time in Croyde or surrounding areas. My Favourite Cottages were also fantastic in assisting with the booking at short notice - 5 stars for them also!

late summer in Croyde

The property was in a great location with a nearby footpath leading to the beach. The property was generally well equipped, with a good level of facilities. However there were a couple of points that our family felt could have been improved. Although the kitchen was stylish we believe that the single small fridge was very small for a property that could sleep up to 8 people. The second area where I believe the provision was poor was the en-suite bathroom - the shower was somewhat dated with limited shower pressure and difficult to make adjustments, and the trim around the bath / shower unit was damaged. In addition there was no shelf to put a toothbrush on over the sink - just the ledge that was around 18 inches off the floor - which seemed somewhat unhygienic. Overall however we found the property a good base for exploring Croyde and the surrounding area; and we enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful October stay

We had a lovely stay at this property, excellent location and a beautiful space. We all agreed it was very good value for money and exceeded our expectations. It seemed to have been renovated very recently and they've obviously done a fantastic job. We hope to stay again soon. A few points of feedback that are largely just to do with the info provided in advance, and things that I think need re-visiting for circulating to future guests: 1) The address in the arrival instructions (Sunset Beach 2, Leadengate House, Croyde Road, Croyde EX33 1PN) does not take you to this property when inputting the whole address into google maps, but leads to a property/intersection at Bay View Close further down Croyde Road. We thought it would be useful to put a what 3 words reference for clarity here, as we struggled slightly when arriving in the evening. I'll send an email with snips of this in case the summary above isn't clear 2) Access instructions - our instructions directed us to the door down the right side of the property (Access: The entrance to Sunset Beach is located on the side of the 'house' on the right hand side. ) however on arrival it seemed the door and key safe down the right hand side of the property relate to 'Oyster Cottage' (I think that was the name). We felt that the direction should read the main door on the right hand side of the front, rather than directing us down the side of the property. 3) Wifi instructions - these weren't captured in the advance documentation or in the binder at the property, we reached out to the property manager who directed us to the router, but it actually took us a while to find this. We thought the property binder would benefit from a page noting the location of the router and password and network for easier access next time 4) Very minor facilities point - we thought a doormat would be good, especially at this time of year we were keen to brush mud off boots upon entry. And the upstairs bathroom would be good to have a toilet brush and a small bathroom bin.

Lovely location, awkward house

Firstly we had a lovely holiday, the location was perfect for us. The house whilst needing a bit of updating (old rusty microwave etc.) is overall okay, with good bathrooms/showers. We had a number of challenges with 7/8 adults staying, which may not be an issue for smaller groups. There is only a very small under counter fridge, which wasn’t working well, certainly not large enough to cater for a week or two for 8 if you plan BBQ/cooking. One of the eight beds is actually a ‘camp bed’ so for an adult was not practical and thus was squeaky. A number of pieces of garden furniture were broken so seating 8 outside was a challenge. On arrival the bin store was full and remained full/overfull until our last day, so we could not put any rubbish out, which with 8 of us was inconvenient (seagulls had already taken to what was out!). Two other points of note, which maybe less clear from the ad/pictures. (1) the kitchen is upstairs, and access to the garden is only through someone’s bedroom if you are using all the bedrooms, which is quite inconvenient if you are using outside/BBQing. (2) if you do use the garden worth noting that the property next door (also a holiday rental) runs along the side of the garden, with their windows directly facing the garden. So the garden is not very secluded.

Family holiday

The property was fine and ideally situated for Croyde beach and town. It was reasonably well equipped although some items had been removed due to the pandemic situation, but surprisingly not the out of date visitors book.Despite giving the cleaning team an extra 9 hours Covid cleaning time (3hours x 3cleaners) which was taken from our holiday time, it was difficult to see how this time had been spent.There was dust on the door architraves, the front door handle had body fat residue on it, the shower heads had black mould on them,the mircowave was stained inside, the iron was unusable due to debris on the sole plate, and the garden furniture in the outside store still had others food debris on it. he fridge was inadequate in size and the door was faulty so didn't keep food cold. We had to eat out most days as a result.The freezer compartment was dirty and had others ice trays inside.They were only a couple of bin bags left for our use.We also had to buy toilet rolls as there were only 1 1/2 rolls in each toilet. There's no Covid excuse for this !There was no welcome pack at all, only a few dishwasher tabs.This was particularly disappointing as when the 6 of us arrived we then had to go shopping, not even some milk and tea bags for a cuppa after a 6 hour drive.We then had to unload the dishwasher and put everything away.Not the best start to our holiday.The property manager Clare was described as feisty by the travel agent but she was in fact very rude and put the phone down on me when I queried the additional cleaning time required and the fact we had to vacate the property by 9.00 am on leaving day. We were threatened that the cleaning team would be on the door step ready to move in as we moved out. They were still not there at 9.25 am!We also had to remove all of the bedding, sheets, pillow cases, mattress protectors, towels, tea towels and oven gloves and correctly put them in tattered and torn old bags, failure to do this was subject to a deduction. Whilst I can understand that this can help the cleaning staff, it's their job and our holiday and if they have the right PPE then this shouldn't have to have been done by us, particularly when having to leave by 9.00 am. We were also given no notice that the gardener would show up and we looked out of the downstairs bedroom window one morning to see him cutting the grass. Also there was no warning of the window cleaner turning up either.Nice property very poor property manager & management.

Enjoyable weekend stay

Overall we were impressed with the property. Location is as great. However A few things like lawn not being mowed, no access round the back to the garden and cracked bath panel let it down a little

We did see the sunset over the beach from the upside down house.

A lovely, upside down house in a fantastic location in the beautiful village of Croyde, the house was tidy and clean (as a clean freak i only had to clean one bathroom sink and dust the tv cabinet) before settling in really comfortably. (Always bring bleach on holiday, but it stayed in the box this year) Really well equipped, and the management company responded quickly to resolve a problem with tv and bins and replaced the tv box that same afternoon while we enjoyed the beach! A great sized house with lots of storage for the seven of us, good quality and plenty of bedding towels, and kitchenalier, we had another brilliant week in our favourite place, lovely big sunny garden with summer house, seating and Bbq. the only improvements would be better wet suit cleaning and storage facilities without trekking sandy wet wetsuits through the bedrooms to the garden eg an outside tap/shower at the front of the property and a hanging rail in the shed! And possibly a bigger fridge for a family of 8! Lovely house, with all the finishing touches we’d definitely stay again thank you!

Early summer break

Four gentlemen meeting up to cycle the Tarka Trail and enjoy the Devon countryside. One of the best short break holidays we have had. A nice house well equipped providing all we needed for an enjoyable stay. A great location within easy reach of local resources, plus we enjoyed fantastic weather for our week. Will come again!!

A wonderful holiday

This is a very child friendly, well equipped house. We were two families with young children and we lived with plenty of space. The garden was very secure so the children could play safely. The position is great, with the beach only a five minute walk and the village too. The village is so quaint with everything you need. A fantastic find for us.
