You need to know this

I give this place 3 stars, its a nice place with a good amount of room but there are a few issues. Our stay was Monday - Friday, just 2 adults. Pros - lots of room. Cons - no ac. There is a portable ac unit on wheels in the bedroom however, the exhaust vent goes behind a curtain to the window but not outside. There is no way to open the window for the exhaust vent to take the hot air outside so it just pumps all the hot air back into the room. Be prepared to wake up at 7:30am every morning - which if you like to get up early then this may not be a problem for you, but if you like to sleep in a bit good luck as you will hear lots of talking and lots of walking across the floor above yiur head.

Nice neighborhood

Our stay was overall good. The only issues we had were the noise from the house upstairs and that we needed toilet paper (which the host did fix). I would stay here again.

The unit is in their basement so it’s very noisy with them walking around. We could also hear conversations and assumed they could hear us as well. The place was pretty shabby with mismatched furniture from the 1980’s as well as some of their own stuff stored behind the couch. No television reception or cable and parking was problematic. I wouldn’t stay again.

This place was perfect for our Salem visit. Easy to find and convenient for a quick trip to the store. The neighborhood was nice.

Unsatisfactory property, Horrible Smell

My spouse and I are extremely disappointed in this property. From the moment we entered the property there was a chemical smell in the garage. The couch/tv area had a very foul urine smell. We could not even use this area. The kitchen, where we had planned to cook our meals, was extremely dirty and unsanitary. There were a couple spiders that we had to kill. The floors and rugs have not been swept or vacuumed, and there was hair everywhere. The residents/owners had a tv blaring up above our bed area until late hours. I’m not sure what the over $100 cleaning fee is for as there was still trash/pizza box from previous occupants. We were not made aware that the washer was not working (looks like they knew weeks before our trip per other reviews) which was one of the reasons we poked this property. I can not recommend this listing.

Noisy upstairs residents and not clean unit

Could use a professional cleaner, bathroom was really dirty. I had to clean to use. Kitchen looked clean but items left to wash dishes was moldy and gross. Utensils and pans were dirty. We really felt like they didn't care and we were an after thought. The front door was through the garage, which smells like gas and no windows in the place for sunshine or fresh air. Half was unit was used for storage which made it unusable for paying guests. Broken furniture and unsafe items found in desk drawer while looking for a pencil. Disappointed for the money I paid. I world have complained to host but didn't have anywhere else to stay.

Good Value - would stay again

Location was convenient to the highway with easy access to Boston, Salem and beyond. There was free off-street parking. Automatic check-in with key pad was seamless. The place itself was clean without being pretentious. There was more than ample space for 2 people. There’s not much natural light in the apartment but plenty of lights, that worked for us. We’re late risers anyways. Appliances, including wifi worked well. Except the washer was not working when we were there. All in all, Geng’s apartment was sufficient for all of our needs.

The property was in a nice, quiet area and it was especially easy to get to and from the highway leading to Downtown Boston. 5 min drive to the Orange Line - Oak Grove station

Exactly as described

This apartment was perfect for our sisters trip to Salem. There was plenty of sleeping space for the 4 of us. The couches were insanely comfy. Fridge and coffee pot worked like a charm. Centrally located to lots of great restaurants and shopping! Parking, checking in and out, and all the rental process was simple and efficient. Overall a wonderful stay and we would rent again if we come back to the area!

Vacation Week

We arrived in high 90s temps with no air conditioning. It was miserable. Listing notes that there is AC and maybe the other units have it. This unit should be listed separately as lt is an added basement unit with only two slit windows. The fans they supplied only moved the hot air around. Television is streaming and antenna. The antenna rarely worked in the basement. Location was wonderful as it put us close to everything but we would have enjoyed watching television in cool temps in our unit.

Well, we had to enter through the garage which was kind of weird. And we found a hair ball covering the shower drain. There was a used roll of toilet paper hiding behind the toilet where they must not have seen it and cleaned better. Dusty in some areas too. Just overall could have been cleaner.

Short trip to Boston

Overall, my friend and I were not impressed.... considering we both must have spotted and then got rid of 3-4 spiders each. Terrible smell all throughout the property- we left the stove and bathroom fans on when we were home to alleviate the smell as best we could. Cobwebs were found around the perimeter of the property and in many locations in the bathroom. Safe to say the cleanliness was not up to our standards, but that’s not to say it won’t be for someone else. On a much more positive note, the property felt extremely safe and was in a great location if ever traveling to Boston- quick and easy 20 min drive into the city. Having a parking space available in the driveway was extremely convenient. The owners had provided laundry detergent, dryer sheets, fabric softener, etc.. for us to do our laundry. (Washer and dryer located in property bathroom) sure is nice coming home from a trip and not having to wash your clothes- makes unpacking 10x better. Anywho, I rated this homeaway as a 3 star stay mainly because of my own personal cleanliness standards. Again, that is not to say it won’t be up to ‘your’ standards. I would just note that if any of the cleanliness issues were to be an issue for you.. then I would reconsider. Thank you!

MIT Grad weekend

We were looking for an inexpensive place to sleep while in Cambridge for our daughter's graduation from MIT. The drive was short, the apartment was way more space than we needed but the price was right.
