  • This is the headstone of Banner Elk, North Carolina. This elk has been in the town forever, but this past year the elk has been refurbished and installed as the centerpiece of the town. This elk frames Appalachia in the sense of this small town pride in the mountains. In the background you can see the historic elementary school and rolling mountains and once again the North Carolina pride of the state flag surrounding this elk even though about 100ft to the right there is another flagpole with the same flags raised high and proud. This is where every child in this town went to school in this picturesque location but as time rolls on is Appalachia move on too? #appalachianechoes

  • Throughout my childhood I spent so much time at this park. I always remember of thinking of it as the park in the middle of the mountains. What I never noticed as a child was how every single aspect of this park was planned out and put there for a reason. Likewise before studying the photographic image I had never thought about how we construct a image and its affordances and constraints. One thing I really want to point out in this image is that while we have this beautiful park there is a huge ugly pipe in the middle of the photograph. It is part of the necessity of the planning of the park, just like the frame is a necessity of an image. We sometimes want to forget it is there but it is a necessary part of an image and still has meaning. #appalachianechoes

Great mountain getaway

Our stay was very peaceful and refreshing. The check in and check out process was simple. The property was clean, peaceful, and provided a great deal of privacy. We will be returning to vacation at this property.

Banner View

Beautiful cabin with lovely decorations. The on demand hot water heater was noise annoying and took about a minute to become hot. The hot tub is outside without an entrance from inside the house. You must walk out the front door to the driveway and the back deck to get to it. If you bring your pets, make sure you don’t let them in the grassy areas. It’s full of deer poop. One of my dogs ate some and got an extremely sick. The trash and temperature instructions were confusing. Other than this, we enjoyed our stay.

Did a quick getaway with the kids to NC mountain and our stay at Blue Ridge was perfect! The cabin came with everything except food and was very clean. Looking forward to renting it again next year!

Great, except the grill.

We really like this rental, but the grill is totally unacceptable. New, it couldn’t have cost more than $50-60. Very low, and uneven, heat. I couldn’t determine if it was broken,or just cheap. We couldn’t even cook hamburgers on it, much less steaks. We’ve stayed at this property 3 times, and we won’t be back unless we can confirm the grill has been replaced by one more consistent to how nice this property is in all other respects.

Very clean but obviously a woman was not a part of planning the cabin - no where to sit in either bathroom , one bedroom had no chair. Very limited space to put personal items. Kitchen was fine

May Getaway

This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cabin was comfortably furnished and had a well equipped kitchen. Its location was close to downtown Banner Elk, making it convenient to meet with family for lunch and dinners. There was a hot tub on the cabin's back deck but it was not used during my stay. I would stay again though I would have liked to be closer to hiking trails, or walking trails to downtown.

nice cabin

Overall the Cabin is really nice and clean. Nevertheless, we arrived at night and it has been a pain in the neck to find the location. It is said valley view drive. There is no drive or road !! we ended up at seven devils in the mountain after a very long drive and tired!! The direction should have said next to the banner elk Golf or even better with the exact GPS coordinates!!
