Our drive to Big Bear was challenging -- the road was completely socked in by clouds, and it is a long, extremely curvy and steep mountain road that is not for the faint of heart! We were so relieved when we arrived and opened all the blinds. The sun was finally out, and the view was splendid. The large deck was relaxing -- just what we needed.
The house itself was clearly built with all the best materials and attention to detail. The master suite is a true retreat. I would love to have that type of experience in my own home. The kitchen is also fantastic.
We did have one problem, which may not affect most people. Two of the members of our party have severe allergies to perfumes, and all of the sheets and blankets were washed with scented detergent and dried with scented laundry sheets. We washed all of the bedding the first night, but the smell lingered. The beautiful throws on the couches had the same smell, which permeated the couches themselves so we had to sit on the kitchen chairs. We understand that most people can probably tolerate the scents, but it would be great if the cleaners could switch to unscented laundry products.
While the house itself is amazing, it would be nice to have more lighting on the stairwell and in the downstairs bathroom. The lighting in the upstairs 1/2 bath and in the master suite was excellent.
We spent a lot of time on the deck watching the birds fly above and below us. It is a great place to relax and commune with nature.
