The Seagate was on the estuary in lovely Appledore. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We stayed here before and after a trip to Lundy. The first night was in room7 which was spacious and you could just about see the sea. The second night in room 9 which had a completely frosted window and was small. The pub food was good. I particularly liked the ceasar salad . Would return.

Great place to stay.
Great place to stay! Very dog friendly. Room was very nice with nautical theme. Staff were excellent. Appledore is a lovely little town with great views and old fashioned streets to explore. Highly recommend this hotel

Seaside retreat
Booked the seagate based on online photos and wasn't disappointed. Warm welcoming and cosy , open fires comfty bar and rooms. Well stocked rooms tea and coffee refilled every day , hamper of treats in room you pay for only what you eat. Breakfast and evening meals were top notch fresh and local and good size portions. Staff were amazing very helpful, sorting tables for evening meals and recommending drinks ( blood orange gin ) our was overlooking sleepy street's ( chocolate shop and fish bar) room was spacious and well equipped. Loved our stay so much have booked for sane time next year

The hotel is close to shore and handy for enjoying walks. It is a friendly homely hotel and the staff are very helpful and obliging and very importantly it is dog friiendly and their every need is catered for. I would certainly stay there again.

Nice stay in Appledore
Friendly service. Comfortable room. We had a nice meal in the pub. Good news if you're coming by car: there is free parking along the quay.

Loved the place
Stayed in room 14 the Quays, which was designed for disabled persons (we weren't) , which we question as not much space if wheelchair used. The sink was small and low down which was not very good for hubby at 6 foot+. The room was kept clean and serviced daily. The only real down side wasinternet access which was intermittant at best and only at certain times of day, you could not use 2 devices at same time. Overall stay was great and gave us a nice break.

Lovely cosy stay !
Charming bedroom , though a tad small, with lovely views out to the estuary . Really liked the original decor and attention to detail, with welcome homemade cookies a nice touch . Bed comfortable and bed linen and towels top quality. Bathroom spotless and gorgeous toiletries to make use of . We didn’t eat in the pub , preferring to use smaller local businesses in the town .

We checked in at The Seagate for a twin bed room which we believed we were booking and paid for. The staff member who checked us in, then told us that the room is a short walk away. She took us to the room and left us. Outside the building it was written the Quay Hotel, Appledore. I cannot tell you if The Seagate and The Quay hotel is the same thing but we were not awarded. The room and bathroom were not very clean. The toilet roll has not been changed, in fact the toilet paper ran out in the evening and we had to use our own tissues. The shower screen has not been wiped and rude words appeared when the screen steamed up. The sheets appeared clean but I found two small insects running around. The room was very warm and there was no fan, we could not open the window as it faces the pavement and people could see directly in, we had to leave the shutters close for privacy and safety for the night. It was very noisy till very late in the night. To sum up, we were very pleased that we were leaving first thing the next morning. We did not have much interaction with the staff apart from a brief check in and check out, so we could not comment. We had breakfast before leaving and the breakfast was fine.

Dear Ah-YamThank you for taking the time to leave a review.Firstly can we apologise if we disappointed you on your visit, we always go over and above to try and ensure our guests enjoy their stay, so if on this occasion this was not the case, our apologises.Regarding the cleanliness of your room. We cannot tell you how hugely surprised we were to read any of these comments; we have a fantastic team of housekeepers who clean the rooms to such a high standard, so were more than surprised re your bathroom and bed comments but apologises if you found this to be the case.The Fan was located in your wardrobe and the twin room you booked is in The Quay; the website does clearly state that we have 2 areas in our business, the main bar area and The Quay, this is also reflected on Expedia where you booked, we are a little surprised by your comment, "left us", not sure after escorting you to your room, what else she should do, except leave you to settle in.Appledore is one of the quietest place after around 10pm at night, so unsure what noise you experience.It was pleasing to read that your breakfast was "Fine"Thank you for visiting us.

Excellent hotel overall. Parking, very clean and great staff. The niggles: Room was very small and limited lighting and no view. Maybe got the box room as booked with Hotels.com and not direct.

A lovely quiet hotel overlooking the sea front. The staff were friendly, going out of their way to help. There was a good variety of food, especially for breakfast. Only downside for me were the stairs, but the exercise did me good ! Would like to return in the future, thank you to all the staff.

Lovely hotel and always stay there when down. Service is exemplary and rooms in very good condition. Unfortunately certain rooms face the side street with bright lights and neon shop signs and the room blinds do not block this out. Also a very windy night sees the windows rattle all night.

Disappointing
Tiny room, barely room between double bed and either wall. Advertised as a king bed and room wasn’t one of any shown online. Asked reception in the morning and advised I “clicked happy” and they had better rooms! Yet only one advertised? Wouldn’t stay again.

The room you have mentioned is not a king bed, it has a double bed within and this is what is advertised on the website; I am unsure what picture you were looking at when you made your reservation, so apologies if you believed this to be the case and we are also very sorry if you found the size unsatisfactory. Best hotel this year
Fabulous hotel, beautiful room with excellent facilities. Public area beautiful with a vibrant lively Bar/restaurant. Food was excellent and all the staff were super friendly and efficient. Best hotel I’ve stayed at this year. Highly recommend.

The room was pleasantly designed, though offering little space on one side of the bed for a second person to shuffle through to the bathroom at night. Mean little glass teacups were on offer for morning tea/coffee - go anywhere else these days and full-size mugs are “de rigeur!” Who wants to go to and fro from the bed to top up the finicky little dainty teacups! Not modern travellers! We chose to eat dinner at SEAGATE. The dishes were tasty & nicely presented but way over-priced, especially the lentil and squash recipe. Only a handful of diners were in (it was a Wednesday) and staff were dressed very casually and exhibited behaviour to match - jokily calling out personal conversations between kitchen staff to serving staff across the length and breadth of the rooms in which expensively paying guests were dining. The managers were apparently away visiting their home/family. Individually the staff on duty were personable and very relaxed …. but it was all too casual, and very unprofessional.
