Our summer family vacation this year took us to Northern Michigan with the main motivation being spending a day in Mackinac Island. In not being overly familiar with the area, we chose to stay at Shanty Creek Resort based on a friend’s recommendation who was familiar with the area.
To summarize, the accommodations were ultimately fine and met our needs. The resort is ultimately fine but old and outdated and likely more hopping during ski season then golf season. Dining options on site are limited, golfers would enjoy the five courses on site although was a bit disappointed with condition of the courses for being an “Award Winning Golf Resort.”
The condo itself was ultimately as advertised and met our needs, a bit old like the resort but not a deal breaker and the price was fair for what it was. The kids loved the tennis courts out the back door and fun to watch the golfers tee off on hole #1 of the Summit.
The only hiccup which ultimately worked out with the temps being mild, was upon checkin the AC was not working properly in which my call to the owner was first basically met with “I’m sorry, that’s the best I can do.” After a little more conversation, she did line up maintenance to check it out but the soonest she could get them there was Thursday (checked in on Monday). Had the temps been in the 90’s that would not have met expectations.
All in all, the place met our needs and we had a good trip.
