  • A Sneaky Bear's Hideaway is our most secluded cabin, located on a hill overlooking our lake.

    A favorite of guests is the front deck overlooking a stream that becomes a waterfall. Guests frequently comment on how calming an experience it is to sit out and listen to the sound of the water.

    The cabin has a very expansive great room, featuring an eighteen-foot cathedral ceiling and a gas fireplace. The kitchen is designed to appear as an outdoor cooking area, with granite countertops and accent lighting. A dining area features a one-of-a-kind dining table made by craftsmen who bring out the beauty in the wood. Our cabin is now equipped with up to 300Mbps fiber internet.

    The cabin is situated so that both the morning and afternoon sun bathes the interior. Two bedrooms, both with individual bathrooms, provide a retreat from the living area. Each features its own French doors that allow you to watch the sunrise as you awaken to another wonderful day in this wonderful place. A boat or canoe can be rented in season (April–October) for an additional fee, pending availability.

    Besides the cabin, there are many features of the property that you'll get to enjoy while staying here. From the caves, overhangs, and cliffs to the beautiful trees and waterfalls, it's hard to imagine ever being bored at our cabin rental. We promise you will want to return.

Went for a long weekend with my husband and two toddlers. Our stay was fantastic. Lovely cabin and amazing property. Spent a day doing the multiple trails which thoughtfully had areas to rest and have a snack. Drove 20 min to hiking areas around Natural Bridge. The boys loved feeding and watching the fish at our private fishing hut. Would highly recommend!

Fall get away

The cabin is wonderful.kitchen is well stocked with everything you need! The beds are comfy and the view is nice of the lake. We would visit again!

Sneaky Bear cabin

Website is very informative and accurate. Cabin was clean and comfortable. Property was clean and maintained. Family enjoyed both relaxing and activities there and in the area. We plan to book again.

New Year’s Eve Getaway

I took my wife and 2 young children on a two day trip and we all had a wonderful time. The cabin was in great condition and clean. We particularly enjoyed the electric fireplace, short hiking trail up the hill near the driveway, and the nearby lake. The cabin was as advertised and we really enjoyed joyed the stay.

Peaceful Getaway

This cabin was a wonderful place to stay for 2 couples. The cabin was very clean and kitchen was extremely well stocked. Catch & release fishing was very good. No issues at all. We can't wait for the chance to stay again.

WONDERFUL CABIN!

This cabin, was by far, one of the BEST we’ve stayed in. From the cleanliness, to the quiet, and all the things to do just here on the property. Not far from getting your necessities and some out to eat food ( Miguel’s pizza was DELICIOUS) And really not far from all the hikes and activities (the gorge underground and Hollerroad UTV we did) The place was absolutely stunning and we all highly recommend it and would love to come back! Thank you for having us :)

Peaceful Getaway w/ Everything You Need!

Fred and Janice thought of everything with the Sneaky Bear Cabin! When they say "just bring your food and fishing pole", they mean it. Such a clean cabin with all of the amenities. It's the perfect cabin for two couples! It so quiet and secluded. We highly recommend this and any cabin these folks manage.

Super Clean

The cabin was exceptionally clean. The scenery is beautiful and so peaceful. WiFi and satellite were spotty but that was not a big deal. Too much nature to enjoy to worry about that. We came for a family reunion and will rent this place again next time we come.

Beutiful views.

Beutiful property and land. Feel it does need another comfortable chair. Three adults on the couch is a little tight and some shades for windows in tv room when its sunny.Owner is wonderful with communication. I would highly recommend this cabin or any of the other properties she they one. Property is absolutly spectacular.

Red river gorge bliss

Amazing stay at the cabin. The property itself is gorgeous with hiking trails and caves to explore. We also went around red river gorge area. Very quiet, serene and the hosts were super helpful. The house was well done, looks rustic, with has all modern amenities. I left a pair of earrings behind and they shipped it to me right away. We will be back!

Time away

This was my first ever VRBO rental, and will do it again. This cabin was perfect for relaxation for my husband and I and another couple to try and recharge our batteries for a long weekend getaway. The cabin was beautiful and had everything we needed as if we were in our own home. Enjoyed the property and access to the pond for fishing. Owner was in contact with me prior to our stay. Thank you Fred for sharing your little slice of heaven in your valley with us. We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Sneaky Bear cabin.

Wonderful Cabin!

My colleague and I were looking for a quiet, comfortable cabin for a writing retreat. We certainly found it with Sneaky Bear! We've stayed at a number of different cabins over the past couple of years as we've worked on our book, and this was far and away the best. The living area was spacious and the furniture comfortable. The bedrooms were large and had ample storage for clothing. Each bedroom had an en suite bathroom that felt like a spa experience because the showers were so amazing (seriously, we don't know how a remote cabin had such powerful water pressure). The beds were comfortable, as well, and although the frames were high, the owners thoughtfully provided small step stools to assist the vertically challenged like me (I'm 5' 4"). The kitchen was well equipped and easy to navigate; perhaps best of all, this kitchen had a dishwasher, which we've found to be rare in this area of Kentucky. There were comfortable outdoor seating areas and a nearby stream to provide the peaceful sound of running water to accompany our morning coffee on the deck. If we have a chance to come back to this area, we will definitely stay at Sneaky Bear again!

Sneaky Bear Experience

Our cabin was clean, it was supplied with all the necessary things we needed i.e. towels, a few toiletries, kitchen supplies etc. The bed was comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was very good. The TV selections are basic. The road getting into the cabin area is gravel. I'm very fussy about my car and was disappointed the road wasn't paved to the cabin. We had to drive very slow. The view from the balcony overlooking the lake is nice. It's the most sparsely decorated cabin I've ever stayed in. No pictures, games, magazines. Like the TV, very basic. When we arrived in the evening the code box was open and the key exposed, which gave us concern that someone could have entered the cabin that wasn't supposed to be in it. I contacted the owner and was told she forgot to shut the box. So all was well. Overall, our stay at Sneaky Bear was good and we enjoyed our time there.

Enjoyable Family Getaway

Our family decided to spend a few days in the Red River Gorge area and wanted to find a place to stay where we could continue our enjoyment of nature as well as give us some space to unwind. The Sneaky Bear Hideaway was the perfect spot for this. While not the closest property to the Red River Gorge (or anything, really), the drive was pleasant and not too far. Also, being out in the middle of nowhere provided a peaceful relaxing time. The overall property is several acres and includes the owner's residence and two other cabins. The Sneaky Bear is up on a hillside overlooking the lake, giving it a good deal of privacy, yet the convenience of being right near the lake and its own private dock, and little boat. If you want to be right on the water, the other two cabins would be ideal for you, but we thought the Sneaky Bear was perfectly situated. The property is beautiful with a lake and some scenic hiking trails that should not be missed, with caves, shelters, and a lot of natural Kentucky beauty. It boarders undeveloped land that adds to the nature and beauty of the area. The cabin itself its pretty new, and is modern, clean, and comfortable. The kitchen is well-stocked is comfortably upscale. We only cooked one meal during our stay, but could have easily used it for several meals. There are several decks perfect for relaxing, and the living room is spacious, open, and comfortable. Some notes to consider: 1) If you want to enjoy nature and explore -- this is the perfect place, but if you're looking for something near shops, restaurants, etc . . . its a little drive (but doable -- Beattyville has a couple restaurants and a couple discount stores -- one of the days after exploring/hiking we drove to Hilltop Pizza, ordered, went to Dollar General to grab a couple items, went back to pick up the pizza, and went home to eat and watch a movie -- minimizing the travel). 2) Use Google Maps, NOT iPhone's map app (when I typed the address into the iPhone map app, it changed the road name to a very similar road name, leading us to the wrong location, but the Google Maps app worked great). 3) The drive up to the Sneaky Bear cabin is steep -- we did it fine with just a 2-wheel drive SUV, but I would have not wanted to try it during a time of year when it may be icy. 4) The trails are a must see, but we needed to get directions to them, so be sure you ask. Great place -- if ever back in the area, we would stay here again!

Too tall beds!

If I had known beds were over 3ft. High I would have brought a move trustworthy step. 70 yrs plus and a knee replacement, had to sleep.on the recliner. Cabin is beautiful and very clean. We really enjoyed heating with the fireplace!

Perfect for Two Couples

The rooms were almost identical so one couple didn't get the "good" room, they were both good. Immaculate cleanliness. Whoever cleans this cabin, whatever you do, don't let them get away. They do a fantastic job. We had a great time! If I could offer two tips - the label for the internet access should reflect the password, verbatim, to reflect lower case letters. I wasn't able to find an information binder, which is nice to have. We explored the town but didn't know if there were other things to do.
