Spent the week of Christmas in this mountain cabin (2 adults, 2 teens). Great time! Clean. Upscale. Updated. Awesome views. No complaints there. It’s listed in Banner Elk, but it is equal driving time to Boone and downtown Banner Elk. Sugar Mtn is the closest ski resort, then Appalachian and then Beech when you consider drive time. If you’re tubing go to Hawksnest. It’s the closest, least expensive and offers the most lanes by far. The listing recommends 4WD/AWD. I spent most of my time in 2WD, but kicked in AWD a few times. The driveway is steep. You’ll need AWD/4WD/chains to get to the house in the snow. You might see past reviews on this site and others complaining about there not being many household basics and essentials (I didn’t notice them until days before our trips). This is true. At this price point you should have cooking oil, foil, plastic wrap. That wasn’t the case. The only seasonings were a tiny salt and pepper shaker I’m pretty sure a past visitor left.Keep in mind we were there for a week, and we were given one roll of paper towel. I bought more. We were given 2 dishwasher pods. I bought more. My wife brought her own coffee machine and it’s a good thing she did because they only provided 2 cups for their machine and no sweetners. Just make sure you’re prepared. I brought extra laundry pods from home. There’s a Food Lion and Dollar General less than 20mins from the cabin. I bought a lighter for the campfire and left it there.
