The property was as expected. Unfortunately, the company who rented to us were not on the ball! They said they’d be open on Christmas, our check in date and when we arrived at the office at 11am, there was a young man on call who was trying to check people in but no paperwork had been left for him. He did his best but we received no check-in packet, just 2 sets of keys. We got directions to the condo from the guard at the gate. The condo appeared to be clean, however, it was very cold. We immediately turned on the 3 old fashioned thermostats. They didn’t work so we called the help line. The man who answered asked all kinds of questions and then told me to plug in a little heater. I did and it blew the fuse! I called back and got a different man and explained everything to him. He kept telling me to try this and try that! We also had no lighting in the bedroom! We don’t understand why the fuse box is in the “locked” owners closet. It seems we argued about all the problems until he relented and said he’d interrupt his Xmas to come turn on the fuse and get electricity to the bedroom. We didn’t need the guilt of it being Xmas. He talked to the owner who said there were issues with the electric. We went to dinner and he came and did his thing. He said the extension cord under the bed was unplugged. My husband is 80 and I’m over 60 so neither of us would have figured that out and certainly couldn’t get under the bed! Everything got figured out with the heat so we were comfortable, at last!
My recommendation to CIVR is a better check system for their rentals. Everything should be in working order and they should use a checklist. Also, thorough explanation of electricity glitches should be included in their handbook and there should be access to the fuse box. Since I didn’t get a check-in packet, I had no idea what the wi-fi password was! Finally found it on the mantel! Should be in the handbook for easy access. If they are going to rent places on holidays then they should be there and ready to check in. The poor guy that checked us in had no paperwork left for him so it wasn’t a good start to our vacation! And the ending wasn’t very special either. When we turned in our keys, there were 2 people in the office on Sunday, the 29th. They just took my keys, didn’t say boo, no thank you or how was your stay and did the same to the next lady! When we inquired whether there was anything else we needed to do they said “that’s it”.
