This home is in a great location, a quiet part of Atlantic Beach close to Ft. Macon. It is especially nice that 3 BR, 2 baths, the kitchen and living area are all on the main floor. The best thing about it is the covered porch with rockers! Many things about the house have been updated since we stayed in it 15 years ago, but there is still a lot that needs to be done to make it five stars. Except for the living room, the furniture is largely the same, old, well-used, and some of it falling apart. One dining room chair was downright dangerous and several porch rockers have arms coming off. Two of the beds have headboards not tightly attached so they rock and bang against the wall every time you move. We had a disabled member of our party and many things were difficult for him: nothing to hold onto getting into and out of showers, nothing near the shower to hang a towel on (hooks on the bathroom doors would be very helpful). There is a large dune between the house and the ocean which cuts off some of the view and is difficult climbing for older people, impossible for someone disabled. Utensils in the kitchen need replacing. Washer broke first day we were there and could not be fixed. All minor things which could easily be fixed and make this a very fine place to stay. Also, someone needs to tell you when you check in that there is a separate thermostat for the downstairs area. It is not in the hallway where you would expect it to be but is sort of hidden behind a bedroom door and our downstairs guests suffered with heat and humidity through the week without knowing they could do anything about it.
