The cottage is comfortable and well equipped and has a delightful secluded back garden. It is located in a beautiful part of rural Crete with magnificent views of the White Mountains. We particularly enjoyed doing the many local walks. Booklets and maps were provided in the cottage and made following the trails very easy. There are many bars and restaurants in nearby villages which provide very affordable and delicious food and a very warm welcome. Not to be missed is a visit to nearby Vamos where there is a superb bakery, John the English butcher and Mackie's bar where you will be given a free shot of Raki with your coffee or cold beer. Johanna is a generous and welcoming host.We visited in May when all the wildflowers were out.

We enjoyed a marvellous week at this beautiful villa set amidst olive trees and with a spectacular view of the White mountains from the roof terrace. Well placed for trips to Chania, Rethymno, Aptera, the beach and local villages. The villa itself is beautifully designed and very well equipped. Fun visits from the owners' dogs and very affectionate cat! A very peaceful setting - wonderful for anyone needing to relax and unwind. We will be keen to visit again some time!

This place is a true gem, a real hideout in the midst of a wonderful nature area. The house is built with so much detail and warmth, and the hosts provided some wonderful fresh local products as sma welcome. Overall they were very helpful and offering many suggestions and tips for places to visit. But the house has everything you will need, even if you would just want to stay home all day and relax!

This was our first holiday away together without family since covid. It was very relaxing and the weather was fantastic. It’s a great location being around halfway between Chania and Rethymno. There is a lovely terrace at the property with a hot tub (which we didn’t have hot as the temperature was well in the 30’s) Altogether a lovely place to stay

Tolle Unterkunft für zwei Personen, ländlich, sehr ruhig, nettes Dorf (Kefalas) mit Tavernen, Minimarkt etc. ist fussläufig. Es war toll nach unseren Ausflügen hier wieder zu „Johannas Place“ zu kommen und sich an dem wilden Garten, den Hunden und Katzen zu erfreuen. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Perfect choice for a couple seeking a respite from city life. The cottage had everything we needed, including local provisions from the host. We were there during a heatwave, but the stone walls and ceiling fans kept us cool. We loved the magical garden and the roof terrace with views of the mountains, sunsets, and starry skies. Not to mention visits from the friendly cats and dogs. Great location for exploring the villages and beaches of the Apokoronas peninsular and further afield. We were sad to leave!

We loved our stay at Johanna’s Kelafas home. The home was very private, beautifully decorated with many personal touches and everything needed for our stay. The grounds are beautiful, flowers, herbs, fruit trees! We especially enjoyed the fresh grate fruit! Great place to enjoy day trips to the beach, rural villages for an authentic Greek experience and restaurants in the area. Johanna was lovely and very responsive with recommendations to the area. Don’t hesitate to book her place!

The villa was very beautiful and in a wonderfully quiet location. Perfect for us. We loved eating and reading on the terrace in the Mediterranean garden with only the sound of cicadas and the occasional sheep bell. Johanna was a very helpful, solicitous and generous hostess. We enjoyed all the places that she recommended and were made to feel welcome. We would happily visit again. Thanks very much Johanna.

Tolles Haus für zwei Personen - einfach super. Alles da, was man braucht für einen erholsamen und entspannten Aufenthalt! Der Garten ist ein Kleinod. Für jede Tageszeit gibt es eine Sitzecke, die zum Verweilen einlädt: die Terasse am Morgen (Frühstück), die Dachterasse am Abend, eine kleine Ecke unter einem großen Olivenbaum für den Nachmittagstee und am Abend auf einem kleinen Hügel unter einem noch größeren Olivenbaum mit Blick auf die weißen Berge und den Sternenhimmel...unbezahlbar! Johanna ist eine sehr aufmerksame und freundliche Gastgeberin. Zum Empfang war der Kühlschrank reichlich gefüllt, sogar Eier der eigenen Hühner gab es: lecker. Johanna und ihr Mann betreiben einen Olivenhain und produzieren ihr Öl selbst: köstlich!! Im Ort gibt es einen Lebensmittelladen, mindestens zwei Tavernen und zwei Kafineons - alle sind fußläufig zu erreichen. Insgesamt ein rundum Wohlfühlpaket - wir können das Haus und die Gastgeberin nur empfehlen.

Wir haben unseren Urlaub in dem kleinen Häusschen sehr genossen. Die Natur, die Tiere, das Wetter, das Essen und vorallem Johanna, die Gastgeberin, war einfach top! Uns hat es an nichts gefehlt, in dem Haus war alles, was man braucht. 10 Tage vergingen wie im Flug und für uns ist sicher: Wenn Kreta, dann nochmal bei Johanna! Danke Johanna für deine wundervolle Gastgeberfreundschaft, deine Tipps und deine Hilfe bei allen Fragen. Wir empfehlen dieses Ferienhäuschen gerne weiter. Bis hoffentlich ganz bald :)

My wife and I stayed here for a week in July. The cottage is thoughtfully designed, finished to a high standard, and well equipped (sharp kitchen knives are always a mark of quality!). Even during the unprecedented temperatures, we kept cool inside the stone walls under the ceiling fans, and outside in the numerous shaded sitting spots in the lovely garden. I managed a full week of remote working (comfortable table/chairs, convenient power, and reliable WiFi). Johanna was a great host - meeting us on arrival, with lots of great local recommendations, and reliably available by phone. We were also welcomed with a well stocked fridge, which was very kind. Daily visits from the friendly cats and dogs were great, but otherwise the house, garden and roof all felt private and peaceful. The house is in a semi-rural area but is well situated for exploring this part of the island. Highly recommended.

Sitting in an olive grove, with beautiful gardens around, this is a really comfortable villa. Everything you need with a sunny rooftop area. Friendly pets around and Johanna looked after us very well. Great walks nearby and a beautiful base for exploring the area. Two local restaurants in walking distance, a small supermarket, and Vamos with a brilliant bakery a short drive away.

The cottage completely exceeded our expectations, our stay was even better than the pictures. Wonderful attention to detail throughout and great amenities for our stay (the olive oil is the best!). The courtyard is the perfect spot for morning coffee, including the extra of the daily visits from the dogs; Teddy, Chica and Daisy who you come to adore very quickly. The rooftop deck is lovely and a great place for a workout, yoga and evening sunset views and cocktails or star gazing. Johanna is a fantastic host. provided us with great details and researched options to our questions pre arrival. She also reached out just prior to arrival recognizing we were coming in late and offered to do some shopping for us in advance which we sincerely appreciated. Great recommendations, beautiful location, the grounds are lovely with orange and grapefruit trees along with the beautiful wild flowers and olive trees. The village is high up in the hills, a car or e bikes are definitely a must. The area has easily accessible walking and well marked hiking trails. We had an extended stay of almost 4 weeks, we walked everywhere for a few weeks, we used the bikes and for further out exploring we had a car. It is a remote destination, very quiet and beautiful yet easy access to the bigger destinations. Johanna thank you for such a memorable stay and experience. We enjoyed our one week stay in the Apokoronas a lot. Johanna''s and Rob's place is a hideaway with a very peaceful atmosphere. For us it was perfect to truely relax. The view of the white mountains is beautiful. Still, if you don't mind driving, several beaches and many places in western Crete are within reach. The place is perfect for a couple and looks like in the description. Kefalas has a minimarket and few basic places for food or drinks - just don't expect a party location :). For us it was all we needed.
