About Alcúdia and the Surrounding Area
Alcúdia, located in the northern part of Mallorca, is a true gem for travelers who want to both relax and discover the island’s diversity. The town, surrounded by an impressive city wall, offers a wonderful blend of history, culture, nature, and cuisine.
One of Alcúdia’s highlights is undoubtedly its stunning beaches. Playa de Alcúdia, with its fine, white sand and shallow, turquoise waters, is especially popular with families and sunbathers. The neighboring Playa de Muro, with its unspoiled nature and peaceful atmosphere, is also perfect for long walks or simply relaxing. Those looking for more adventure can try their hand at windsurfing, kitesurfing, or other water sports offered here.
In addition to its beaches, Alcúdia also has a lot to offer culturally. The old town, nestled within the city walls, is a fascinating labyrinth of narrow alleys, charming squares, and historic buildings. The Roman theater is particularly worth seeing, transporting visitors back to Mallorca’s past. The city was once an important Roman trading post and therefore has a fascinating history that comes to life in numerous museums and exhibitions. A stroll through the old town takes you past well-preserved buildings and ancient churches that reflect the town’s historical significance. Founded as early as 123 B.C. as a Roman settlement under the name Pollentia, Alcúdia is the oldest city in Mallorca. The city’s name hints at the significant Arab influence that continues to shape the entire Balearic Islands to this day.
When it comes to cuisine, Alcúdia has something to offer for every taste. The streets are lined with traditional tapas bars serving freshly prepared specialties such as “Pa amb oli” or “Tumbet.” Restaurants offer freshly caught seafood and Mallorcan delicacies like “Frito Mallorquín” and “Ensaimada.” Especially during the summer months, you can enjoy the Mediterranean flair on the numerous outdoor terraces and soak up the atmosphere of Alcúdia with a glass of local wine.
For nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts, there are many opportunities around Alcúdia to discover Mallorca’s unspoiled landscape. The surrounding mountains and the S’Albufera Nature Reserve are ideal spots for hiking and birdwatching.
Alcúdia beautifully combines culture, nature, and relaxation. Anyone who wants to experience the beauty of Mallorca in all its facets will find the perfect place here for an unforgettable vacation.
