What you can expect

In the morning we will depart from the hotel by bus heading east through the glacial valleys along the forests and National Route N.3.

Around 10:15 am we will arrive at the Lasifashaj River where we will have a technical safety briefing and will be given the equipment needed including a stable and safe canoe. We will start our navigation of approximately 1:30 hours through the Guarani Passage of the Beagle Channel. As we paddle, we will see the Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego where we will have unique panoramic views, enjoy the sounds of wildlife, see a large number and variety of birds and probably the curious sea lions.

Around 12:00 pm we will arrive at the shore to board a motor boat and sail for 30 minutes around Martillo Island. During the trip we will have the chance to see Magellanic and Gentoo penguins at close quarters.

By 12:30 we arrive at Gable Island, our guide will tell us why today the island represents the earliest history of Tierra del Fuego before the foundation of the city of Ushuaia. In one of the first colonial buildings, in a modest estancia stall we will enjoy a good lunch cooked on the spot, with a good Patagonian red wine and a great and quiet view. After dessert and coffee, at about 1:45 pm we will go on an interpretative walk around the island in the forests of lengas, coihues, ñires and cinnamon trees between beaver dams, vestiges of the passage of the Yámana and the Anglican missionaries.

From the high viewpoint of the “gables”, a glacial formation, we will have an unusual panoramic view of the Beagle Channel at 3:00 pm.

At approximately 4:15 pm we will sail for 45 minutes to Estancia Harberton. There our bus will be waiting for us to start our return to the city of Ushuaia. On the way we will make a brief stop at the flag tree to take pictures and at approximately 6:00 pm we will arrive in Ushuaia.

Those who do not wish to be adventurous or push themselves physically on the canoe trip can opt for an extended and thorough tour of the main house area of the Harberton Estancia. At the end of this visit, we can sail to Gable and Martillo Islands to see the Magellanic and Gentoo penguins.
