Beautiful stay in a gorgeous setting!
I was well cared for at the House with No Nails! The property is beautiful & clean, & in a gorgeous rural setting set amidst mountains, big blue skies, & farm animals. The house is an easy 25 minute drive from the Hobbiton set in Matamata, which was my plan while in this area of NZ. Highly recommended!

we are so thrilled you felt cared for in our home. Yes the setting is absolutely breathtaking with those amazing stretch of mountians. The sunsets at night actually make our guests stand still and just want to soak in its stunning nature show!!! Access to Hobbiton is a big plus for us, because so many of our guests want to go there. The quick direct 20 minute drive allows safe parking and quick boarding on the tour buses down into the set. kind regards and thanks for the high recommendation. jen

Amazing place with a piece of quiet. Unique design and building with different themes in each room. The owners showed the best of hospitality to all guests. They set the bar high which is definitely from their hearts. Sitting at the backyard and enjoying wonderful breakfast with spectacular view. This is always one of the unforgettable experiences in my life. Thank you for all stories you shared and gave us a refreshing mind!

Your words are truly inspiring. From a hosting point of view we are so thrilled you felt the peace and quiet our home provided you with its beautiful landscape. We are proud to tell our story of how the house was made from local trees with only a mallet and chisel. To think this has inspired you is truly worth it. Thankyou for coming. It was a pleasure showing you our very best kiwi hospitality. Jen and Dewi

wow, what a compliment that housewithnonails was the highlight of your trip. We are thrilled you felt welcomed and informed, and went away glad you came. It is said that hospitality is the love of strangers and i would add this, strangers have become friends because they stayed here. We are passionate about our home being that unusual experience guests can add to their New Zealand adventures. The art of timberframing whereby local trees have been hand hewn with only a chisel and mallet using ancient building methods is a story in itself. Staying overnight in its country chic interior, touching the wood, smelling the linseed oil, showering in the concrete industrial bathroom with its rainfall shower, sitting on the lawn under those panoramic mountians is another amazing moment- and it was our pleasure to give you all of this in a homestay. kind regards and thanks for your thoughtful words Jen and Dewi

Beautiful house. We arrived at night and the stars were amazing! Not many lights in the area, so made for great star gazing. Hostess was very welcoming, giving us a tour and explanation of the site. After a long day of traveling, it would have been nice to just get into the room to relax, but stayed and visited with the hosts and other guests. We were offered a choice of rooms, which was nice. Very beautiful interior and history of the house. The only reason I reviewed the amenities as so-so was for the bathroom. There was a nice big bathtub, but there were holes in the door from where the old lock had been. You could see right in from the hallway, and just stuffing toilet paper into those holes didn't feel adequate. The shower was in the far corner, so you could see it from the lock holes if you tried (I tried when no one was in there, for my own comfort). Otherwise, great place. Delicious breakfast served before we left for the morning. I was overwhelmed with suggestions and places to visit, but in a good way. Very helpful and the hosts were more than happy to make sure we knew all the good local secrets instead of just the touristy sites. Would recommend.

wow thrilled you enjoy the brilliant starry skies we experience nearly every night. The milky way is incredible this part of the world. We offer our guest pure wool blankets to wrap themselves in so they can sit out under the stars and really soak in the universe. Thrilled you felt the warm welcome we give out guests. Every one is so special to us and we love to give them the hisoty of our handmade house made from local trees that fell in cyclone bola, then employing an ancient building method dewi used only a mallet and chisel to construct the beamwork which later came together fastened with a hand hewn tree nail at the joinery on one fine barn raising day. This is a Very rare and unique experience to stay in a handcrafted timberframe house due to the fact there is not many in the country. Dewi built this first one and later was asked to build more. Thanks for alerting us to the small hole in the bathroom door where an old lock was placed. We have responded to your request and filled the holes and future guests will not be able to see in or out - privacy reins!!!!! Glad you enjoyed our very special home made breakfast using local producers. Farm fresh eggs, local bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms on wholemeal bread straight out of the oven. We love serving the apple juice from the orchards. Good local screts instead of touristy sites is our passion, and we were thrilled to share those secrets- kyacking up the river under the stars and seeing glow owrms in the banks. Walking north islands tallest waterfall bushwalk ten min utes away with torches. Visitng hobbiton movie set for its famous ale. and so much more!!!! thanks for comeing and pelase come again. dont forget the @ windows walk@ in the karangahake gorge where you walk the tunnels with a light and descend onto the gorge before having a fun eat at the falls cafe.

wow thanks for those lovely words and we are thrilled you felt the warmth of our genuinely wonderful hosting. we love people and we love travel and to share our very uniquely handcrafted home in such a beautiful countryside setting under the mountains is such a joy!!!!! when we see people sitting in the canvas chairs on the lawn just soaking up the peace and quiet with a cold drink in hand we know they are happy. they book one night and decide to stay three realizing its a great base to explore the region. Hobbiton movie set. The tallest waterfall bush walk in the north island. The geothermal activities of the Rotorua. Someone went on the worlds first computerized rail cruiser the other day which took them for an hours drive into the NZ bush. Another did the walks around the old goldmines in the famous historic karangahake gorge . Another draw card is the Hamilton city gardens where every room represents a country- an amazing place to visit. Others took a picnic to the raglan black sands and watched people surf!!!! so much to do and such a neat location. Love to see you come back and see more.kind regards

Our favorite stay in NZ!
Jen & Dewi were warm & gracious hosts that took a personal interest in our comfort and shared their great local knowledge for site-seeing. Definitely go see Weirere Falls, though the climb is challenging. Beautiful! Pretty close to Hobbiton. The house was unique and we loved hearing the story of how they built it by hand. The rooms were comfy; the breakfast delicious. If you're looking for a quiet respite in the country in a lovely house with great hosts, this is it! 😊

Wow!!! So thrilled you loved the housewithnonails story and setting. Sharing this piece of architectural gem where you realize trees became beams on three levels with a hand hewn tree nail fastening it. And you feel the lime on the walls and smell the linseed oil. Rub. But most of all you joined us for that outdoor dinner with candlelight. A medley of roast veg thrown into the oven with sprigs of rosemary and sprinkling of seasalt. Fun!!!!!

Dear Guest it has been our pleasure to receive you to stay briefly with us here in our home. The "housewithnonails" is a unique experience wherein the guest enjoys the natural aesthetics of a home created from locally sourced wood, slaked lime applied in a traditional finish, hand forged metal fixtures, and beautiful leather and linen accessories. Its those finishing touches of hedgerow pickings set in a zinc tub on a coffee table, with views over fields looking into the kaimai ranges. A platter showcasing locally hand made cheeses shared with a glass of crafted New Zealand wine. This is a centrally located North island destination that allows the guest quick access to sandy beaches, native bushwalks, geyser wonderlands, a famous movie set in shirelike countryside, and so much more. Thanks for the brilliant review and it has been a pleasure being helpful and supportive of your visit so you were able to get the mosty out of this amazing setting
