Research before hand and make sure any tour includes all additional fees. It seemed that everything I did invited an extra fee or very insistent requests for tips.

You dont need a guide for the pyramids BUT watch out for the men there. They all claim to work there by showing "badges" and try to tell you information and stories, dont let them. They expect lots of money by doing this. Luckily i was prepared for this ahead of time and just kept telling them NO to the point of exhaustion and had to yell a few times. Sad to say, but this has made it a big tourist trap if you dont know these things ahead of time. The same goes for anyone offering to take your picture...find another tourist and get them to do it for you. Otherwise, seeing the pyramids is a wonderful time and something you should do once in your life.

Definitely one of the wonders of the world. Unfortunately you have to be prepared for taxi drivers, tour operators, tour guides and security personnel to try to sell everything they can and ask for tips. Do not accept everything they offer (take photos, accompaniment, etc.)
