Birthday and Easter visit with our FSU girl
Our daughter plays lacrosse for FSU so was unable to come home for her birthday which fell the day before Easter. We were looking for a home we could rent that we could cook meals in and visit with our daughter yet give our 13 year old something to do. My parents ended up coming as well. It was wonderful! The house was well stocked and we were able to cook a full Easter dinner that we all enjoyed and give my daughter that home cooked meal she misses. It was also large enough to accommodate family in the area to come and hang with us a little bit and visit. We never found or saw the pond pictured in the photos but the canal was right there. The wifi is slow but that is the area in general and with all the fun we were having we didn't need it anyway. The grounds were nicely kept and the house was so clean and inviting. The owners even baked cookies for us and had them there for our arrival! Loved it!

Thanksgiving celebration
We again thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely and well maintained home along the river and the canal tow path. The wide open first floor area is perfect for our annual Thanksgiving family gathering, and the secluded location close to downtown Cumberland is ideal. The bedrooms are comfortable and the house is supplied with everything we need for our stay. We look forward to next year!

Met our needs
We really enjoyed the location as we came to the area to do some scenic driving and Cumberland is a central spot. When we checked in the host just happened to be there but did not realize our reservation started that day, it worked out but had they not been there it could have been a problem as I never got check in instructions on the app. We were only there in the evenings and enjoyed hanging out on the back porch. Just to note, the campsites are around the house so there isn't privacy and you can hear and see the campers. We didn't mind but I could see that bothering others. If you don't want to be around other people though this place isn't for you as the towpath is frequented and it goes right by the house. I didn't know about the path before we got there and it was my favorite part!

There is much privacy. Only 2 sites are around the house. The 2 with electric. They are 300 feet from the house. We have 80 camp sites here. 90% of them have have NEVER Ben camped on. The site in section 2 and 3 are Isolated along the North Branch of the Potomac River, they are more popular. This Guest booked the house in section 1. Probably they don’t know about Section 2 & 3. If you are booking the House and don’t want to see Campers let us no so we can Block the sites around the house. Thanks Donelly 301-777-3472

Thank you for sharing your home. Such a hidden gem in the Cumberland area. Loved the location as it was a nice little country stay outside of the city. Hosts were as friendly and kind as can be. WV/MD Family Reunions
We came into town to attend 2 family reunions. This house was a great reprieve from the business of family gatherings. My son really enjoyed being able to go fishing every morning before our daily agendas. The host even left rods and tackle for him to use. The house is well lit at night. There was plenty of room for our family. We will book here again when we come back to visit.

Great place for a family gathering
Beautiful house and surroundings for a family picnic gathering. There was enough space to eat inside and also enjoy the covered porch out back. The kitchen had enough items/equipment in it to make a few dishes that were needed for our picnic. A nice assortment of snacks/goodies, items in the cupboard and condiments in the fridge if you need them. Diana was very friendly and nice to work with. The only thing we weren't prepared for was the traffic for the fishing near the house, but we were there for just the weekend. Plenty of people watching as the canal toe path was used by walkers and bicyclists. A few of the younger adults were ready to fish, walk & bike around the property. I would recommend keeping the door locked as we had a prospective camper, early evening, who opened the kitchen door with a greeting and inquired about renting a campsite for the night. We directed him to the phone number on the sign near the side of the house.

Thanksgiving Family Celebration
We had another wonderful Thanksgiving family gathering at this lovely home, four out of the last five years, with 25 of us sharing our holiday together. The large open main floor easily accommodated all of us, and the well appointed kitchen is perfect for food preparation and fun. The setting and location of the house is absolutely perfect, right along the towpath trail making for easy walks along the canal and also back into Cumberland where many of family stayed at the nearby hotel. The house is extremely well kept up, clean and well supplied with everything we needed, and the bedrooms are comfortable and very inviting. Diana and Don are extremely gracious hosts, and we look forward to spending another Thanksgiving there in 2023.

They enjoy each others company with music and games, etc. They are very careful about the care of the house and for this we are appreciative. Beautiful, peaceful, spacious
Fantastic couple of nights away for four friends. With 5 bedrooms and 4 bathooms (3 of them upstairs with the bedrooms) we had plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the immaculate house. Kitchen was incredibly well stocked with everything we needed - and even extra little touches like snacks, coffee, condiments, waters and so much more. We especially enjoyed the great room where we could use the long table for crafts, games, and meals. The porch out back was delightful for morning coffee, looking out over the river and beautiful Fall foliage. We walked along the river and fully enjoyed the whole property. Nearby Cumberland was great for a night out, and some daytime shopping. We also did the train/bike trip from Cumberland to Frostburg which we highly recommend (Tracks and Yaks). We are already talking about how we need to come back, and maybe even bring our families (because there is so much room!). The owners are delightful and kind and we're so glad we found this place for our annual girl's trip.

Cozy convenient house
Our family really enjoyed our stay. The home was very clean, roomy and comfortable, well stocked with linens and kitchen/bath supplies. Location is very convenient, bike out the door onto the C&O, 10 minute bike into town and the GAP trail, 10 min drive to Rocky Gap state park. Property has plenty of outdoor space along the river with gorgeous views of downtown Cumberland and comfortable covered patio. Occasional campers and fishers availed of the adjacent campgrounds but were no bother. Enjoyed morning walks around the well groomed property listening to a variety of birds and the very sweet robust smell of honeysuckle in the air. Really appreciated the ice cream sandwiches Diana left in the freezer for the kids which we all enjoyed after long active days. Comfortably hosted extended family for dinner one night with lots of space to sit at the long table and move around the open family room. The long cushioned but firm window benches were really great for resting my back. Great family vacation in Cumberland!

Find space, comfort, beauty, C&O trail, water sports,
This is a beautiful home and property. Out the front door is access to the C&O Canal Trail/Great Allegheny Passage, which is what brought us to the area. We were barely in the home and bikes unloaded when the children, in full view from the home, were out riding on the level gravel road connecting the adjacent camping area on the property. The home is very clean, warm, and comfortable with a spacious living area. The long tables provided (2 at our visit) were perfect to leave one for the children's table activities and the other for dining. The beautiful kitchen had all we needed. The beds/bedrooms were all very comfortable. Visiting in early April was too chilly for us to experience the easy access to the river and water sports, however, the C&O trail was a highlight. Whether you are unfamiliar, as I was, to the C&O trail, or a veteran, you will appreciate the easy access from this property. Both the home and the trail were perfect for our family of grandparents, parents, and young children. Accessibility and ease made us able to take the granddaughters on practice runs of 8-10 mile round trips from the house. One, who turned 7yrs old during our stay, and a 5yr old keeping up on her training wheels. The 7yr old was even able to ride to Frostburg and back with the adults, and the 5yr old rode about 10 miles on the downhill return (all after a great lunch in Frostburg) on her training wheels. Thankfully we had a support vehicle for the non-bicycle miles. We are so glad we found this place. We will be back! Thank you Donelly for being a great host!

We loved our stay! The owners welcomed us with many treats in the fridge for our family, which was a very nice touch. We love the area and getting to explore both the riverfront and the canal. There is a pedestrian bridge over the Potomac on the property and a tunnel through a mountain into WV, which our kids were enjoyed. We saw deer, bunnies, groundhogs and other critters. The house was spacious and perfect for our family and was a great place to get to visit with local family. Since the house is older and so close to both the river and canal, there were a few small bugs (mostly spiders) inside, but they didn't both me (just my bug-phobic kids). Thanks for great place to stay, we can't wait to come again.

Excellent location, clean quiet & well appointed - enjoyed stay
This house sits in splendid isolation in a field about a mile south of Cumberland, at the junction of the C&O Canal path & an upper Western MD Railway path that goes thru a tunnel & off into W. VA. It is kept immaculately & the kitchen is generously supplied with snacks as well as bottled water, necessities, & some staples. (Water is from city but sewage relies on septic tank.) Lots of linens & pillows in the bedrooms. Donnelly asked our arrival time so she could meet us with the key. All was cordial & departure was also easy. The two supplied bikes are coaster brake but there's a bike store a mile up the C&O path in Cumberland that rents bikes. Parking there is free & easy. Two notes: (1) The listed amenities do not include washer /dryer -- they are present but not for guest use, likely due to reliance on septic. (2) Kitchen also includes a small rack of Southern Baptist evangelical pamphlets, some of which are harshly critical of other major religions & sects, and house has other (inoffensive) religious messaging on a few placards.

Fall retreat
This is a lovely property in a beautiful location. The house is well-appointed and with 4 full baths it serves large groups well. The kitchen space has everything you need to cook a group dinner and store your groceries; however, the lighting is dim making it somewhat difficult for those with visual impairment to use. The outdoor space was lovely although the campsites between the house and the river were used sporadically over the 3 days we were there. The availability of the bicycles was a plus for our teens and the surrounding paths near the water make getting outdoors an easy choice. The firepit was a welcome evening addition, a small pack of wood was provided and other packs were available for a fee. A couple of cautions though. Even though the house lists a maximum of 8, there is an upcharge after the first three, check your numbers with the owners. And, while the listing says “pet-friendly,” there are restrictions for the animal and you should again check with the owners before renting. The owners are quick to respond to questions.

Wonderful Anniversary Get-a-way!
This property was exactly what we were looking for to get-a-way for a few days and celebrate our anniversary. My wife and I were greeted by Diana with an unexpected anniversary cake & balloon! The owners go out of their way to make sure you have everything you could need for your stay. The fridge & pantries are well stocked with all kinds of condiments and little things like sugar as we had forgotten ours for our morning coffees! We had the pleasure to meet both Diana and Donelly, both were very personable and we enjoyed our conversation with them. My wife and I took several relaxing strolls along the river. It's amazing to see all the wonderful landscaping work Donelly has done with their property. It's very hard to fully appreciate the house and all the land from just seeing the pictures, you have to actually go to this amazing property to see it for yourself. We are looking to return in the spring with our youngest for some camping along the river as we know he'd love it too! Thank for so much for sharing your house with us and for providing such a relaxing environment. God Bless, Jeremy & Courtney

This house is a very nice house, however the description of the property is misleading and the on site homeowner is very disturbing. Yes, there are 40 acres, however there are over 40 campsites directly surrounding the house, so the privacy is not there. As read in other reviews, the homeowner will be around the whole weekend. That is not an issue if you have nothing to hide. We had nothing to hide. We did call the week of our stay in order to add a guest to our stay. The cost for this was bit steep, yes but honesty is the best policy. We had no issue with that. The major issue was when the homeowner approached our group outside when he took a break from mowing. The homeowner asked very aggressively for me by name in a very demeaning and disrespectful way. To make a long story short, he cursed at us, called us democrats and liars (most of us are republican) He complained to us about everyone staying at his campsites and it isn't fair to him. I can't control that, but the audacity of him to accuse our group of that is totally inappropriate. His language, actions and behavior overall was so inappropriate one of my guests left after breaking down. I spoke to him twice that week in order to add the guest. He said no one ever called him. I went and showed him my call log from a few days prior, he still said I was a liberal liar and I was going to hell. He then stated that visitors were only permitted for 4 hours. This isn't written anywhere and is quite honestly pretty absurd. Our experience was severely damaged due to his behavior. I would ask you to not support this type of homeowner.

Yes, I agree Honesty is definitely the best policy ! The travelers review is far from being Honest or Truthful. You must be a liberal, look at how the Democrats have lied about President Trump! I think this guest is attempting to either ruin or destroy my business. Could it be that Gospel tracts and scripture signs on my truck offended you OR was it because you booked my home for three guests and had six ! Yes, I most certainly keep an eye on the number of guests are staying at both my house and at the campsites. After several years, I am sorry to say many guests are not truthful about the amount of guests staying To address the complaints 1] I DID NOT curse at you. 2] No call was made to me during the prior week as was stated, I checked my phone log and your number did not appear 3] You did not show me your call log, as you stated. 4] I did not state You were going to Hell. People do not go to Hell for lying. Rejection of Jesus Christ is the reason ! We do have 39 Campsites , but they DO NOT surround the house, 3/4 of the sites have never been used. Nearly all the campers go upstream or over the hill far from the house. Camping is generally popular in shaded and isolated areas of the campground. The weekend this guest rented the house there were 7 groups camping on the 40 ac. of property. Quite frankly, there was plenty of privacy for both the house guests and campers. At the side door of the home we have a sign which clearly points the out the importance of the Campers not disturbing the house guests. We have had no prior problems. I sincerely hope this clears any questions about his complaint. John 5:40 " And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life." Donelly Bohrer
