We booked our travel rather late and a short trip to the Cape was our 'backup'. Understandably there were few options available at the time of our search. We've never stayed in Hyannis previously and were going out on a limb with this one. The house is ok, but it could be much better. I'm picky, but for the price, one can find a better value. The house location is a plus if you are interested in being close to restaurants and shops. It is convenient to the Hyannis main shopping street and is an easy walk. The other end of Sea Street leads to a small beach. While it is walkable, we never did it as the beach is underwhelming. It's honestly not worth the $25 daily parking fee as the beach is quite small and with the warm waters of late summer filled with seaweed. We went to Seagull beach in Yarmouth which is a 10-15 drive and a much nicer beach for $20 and includes proper toilets, a snack bar, etc. Skip the beach at the end of Sea Street. Other than a distant view of the Kennedy Compound, you are not missing much.
As for the house, it is a very simple and small cape. We've been fortunate to stay in other VRBO's that are clearly rented by owners and come with many of the accommodations one would like to find when electing to stay in a house and not a hotel. The basics are provided and one can find a way to cook if you are aiming to do so but it is a challenge. We were desperate to find a cutting board and reached out to the property manager to only be told that if we couldn't find it then there isn't one. So much for working to make the guests happy. We made do with glass trivets.
The house offers a place to stay that is a decent location but I wouldn't call it comfortable. Futhermore there was some mold on the shower curtain and the tub drain was extremely slow draining, leading to standing water. One would hope to have a hose to wash off sandy feet and sandals before going into the house. No luck. While there are two window unit AC units in the two bedrooms, they only cycle the compressor on and off but leave the fans running constantly when on. They are noisy. Unfortunately, there are no other operable windows in the bedrooms so it is impossible to simply sleep with the windows open and take advantage of the breezes.
In summary, the house is ok and will likely fit the bill for some, but it is overpriced for what it offers. Unless you are desperate for a very late booking, I recommend looking elsewhere.
