My partner and I wanted a quiet week away from the crowds and construction in the busier parts of QRoo. We had never heard of Laguna Bacalar, a water taxi captain in puerto cancun said if he could go anywhere in Mexico he would choose Laguna Bacalar. We found this rental - and while it was quite big for two, it was the perfect escape from the real world. We watched birds all day, snuck down for romantic sunset dips in our private lake and saw one other person all five days - on a boat in the middle of the laguna. The rain at night made it even more magical. We wake up very early and the lack of light pollution allowed us to drink our coffee on the roof and enjoy the stars, then the sunrise. We went in to Bacalar to shop at the market (we speak ok spanish, google translate helped us a lot!) and travelled to the archaeological ruins in Dzimbache where we saw howler monkeys and toucans. I would love to bring a group of people here - it’s just a perfect getaway. Pay close attention, you’ll find art hiding everywhere. Our hosts were in. contact with us whenever we needed something. We can’t wait to return. We did not use the kayaks but we did use the boogie boards. I was very impressed with the quality of the gear for loan - usually you get beat up old gear but everything here is high quality- if you love to SUP or Kayak, this is the place - the lake is glass. The bed was comfy and the linens and towels were lovely. It was very hot in June.
